• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

ADE ILS DME Location

Hi Jon
Thanks for your work.
FSX and previous FS have gotten the location of ILS DMEs wrong, (maybe for over 20 years), co-locating them with the localiser. They should be co-located with the glideslope as in the real world. The reason for this is that the loc is at the far end of the runway which allows a correct-sense signal rolling on the landing runway. The gs is around the touchdown point and that is the logical place to put the ILS DME for distance to touchdown.
I used FS9 and Level D 767 to prepare for airline simulator recurrent training and checks for many years and after retirement still like to keep in touch. The wrong location of ILS DMEs spoiled the realism and I used AFCAD 2 to change the location as well as other things.
The Navigraph FMC data for the LD767 will not work under Win 10 in FS9 so I have gone to FSX, however the easy editing of navaid co-ords using AFCAD 2 is not possible currently with ADE. No criticism here, I can see that FSX is more complex and I did manage to edit Cairns (YBCS) which now has an ILS DME on Rwy 15, using your tool by exporting to xml, editing that and re-opening with ADE and saving the project.

My wish is for ADE to allow easy editing of all the navaid co-ords as AFCAD did. A fix for the 20+ year MS error may be asking too much.
Below is a copy and paste from the Hong Kong AIP for the 07L ILS.
All the ILS DMEs I have seen in the real world are next to the glideslope antennae.

LOC 07L
CAT II
I-ZSL 111.1 MHz H24 22 19 21.08N
113 56 02.35E
Unusable beyond 28º right of course
GP 07L I-ZSL 331.7MHz H24 22 18 46.29N
113 54 01.55E
GP 3º (nominal)
DME 07L I-ZSL CH 48X H24 22 18 46.29N
113 54 01.55E
5.33 m Co-located with GP 07L

Cheers, Bruce

Are you referring to the fact that the GS and DMR coordinates are no accessible in the properties?

They can be moved by dragging them

If you have a ProKey then you can select any object and use Ctrl+Enter to open the raw data view

Here you can manually set any of the values. If you select the ILS then you can edit it and any associated GS and DME

Is that what you are looking for? There are issues with moving stock ILS components since MS never gave us a way to exclude them so moving can result in duplication or the moved entry snapping back to the stock location. You can orphan stock runways and add a new one but this does not get rid of the original entirely. Someone here will be able to cover orphaning if you want to go that route

Yes Jon, that is exactly what I was looking for thanks. Editing with the Pro Key installed that is. I don't think you can drag the ils dme, there is nothing to grab, but that is irrelevant now.
I was wrong about FSX having already 'installed' ils dme in the wrong place. Hong Kong 07L at least is is the right place. The issue with FSX is that when an ILS DME is added to a stock airport, ticking the DME box picks up the co-ords from the localiser not the glideslope. Just a couple of years ago new ILS DMEs were installed on 15 at YBCS Cairns, 01 at YBTL Townsville and 01 (now 01R) at YBBN Brisbane. Adding these requires the edit.
In FS9 all the ILS DMEs that I checked for airports that I used to fly to in the real 767 or the sim were in the wrong place. I edited a dozen or more.
Many thanks and a few bucks will come your way soon.

You are welcome

I can certainly select and drag the DME which is displayed as an open rectangle

For information, most US ILS associated DME are colocated or nearly colocated with localizer antenna (so this option was not so irrelevant) while most European ILS DME are GS colocated, so there is no rule at all! The only rule is: put it where it is according to AIP ;-). Also take into account some ILS DME are calibrated to read 0 at runway threshold (it is usually indicated on AIP). In such a case it is conveniant to locate DME at runway threshold (no problem since there's no scenery associated object for DME)

When you create an ILS with ADE it will set the GS and DME on the US pattern but as Herve says, just move them to the AIP location
