• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Inserting a Taxiway Point Clears Surface to null

Hi Jon,

I can't find any mention of this as a known bug, so .. for the record.

Create a Taxiway Point using the Blue Circle tool (Add Normal Taxipoint). Drag a Taxiway from point A to B. The default surface is automatically set to ASO_ASPHALT. Click on the blue circle tool again and drop it on the Taxiway Path from A to B and the surface disappears from A to the new C and C to the original B.

Hope that is helpful.

Thanks - I am away at the moment but will take a look at the weekend

Adding a taxiway path is a carryover from ADE for FSX and seems to somewhat work in MSFS, but I abandoned it's use for MSFS since the new concept seems to be to make taxiways from aprons with apron links. That said, I added a normal taxi point, dragged a taxi link and dropped another normal taxi point in the center of the new link. Everything worked fine and the surface (concrete) did not disappear. I did not check to see what appeared in MSFS.

I do see that there is no longer a surface listed for the link(s).

If you are modifying a Concrete Taxiway, the Color doesn't change, but as you say, the surface is no longer listed. An Asphalt Taxiway appears to change to Concrete. Asobo created Airports have certainly used Aprons and Paths, but generated huge complex Aprons with hundreds of Vertices that are almost impossible to modify, since deleting just one takes several seconds. I've written a program to reduce the number of Vertices down to a set distance apart, but that still requires a lot of work to correct or update. The old Taxiway creation system saves a lot of work, so I hope it will work again eventually.

As I have previously stated, I prefer the apron approach to the old taxiways created with links since most airports today have taxiways with varying widths, especially at intersections. The ADE created taxi links' edge lines and lights don't work properly in MSFS except for long stretches of taxiway with no deviations. The aprons created by Asobo with AI are pretty accurate but often have zillions of vertices, so I just delete them and replace with my own drawn over a background image. You can even use the Asobo apron as a template to draw your own and then delete theirs. Of course your ability to write a program to modify the aprons makes all of this unnecessary. Perhaps a command in ADE to eliminate the unnecessary vertices in an apron would be useful.
