• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Installing Addon Library Objects

Well, it's time for another question regarding functions of ADE for FSX. So I'm looking to get a couple of addon library objects for FSX (specifically a KC-135), and the included readme for it is a file that requires the MS Document Reader or something like that. Unfortunately I don't have said program on my computer, so I can't see what it says. So that brings me to the question: How do I install these new objects? What directory do they go in?

Oh, and before I forget:
How exactly does the exclude function work? I've tried dragging the little rectangle around my airports (the ones I've physically expanded), but I still get trees and houses and silos on the taxiways, ramps, runways, etc.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Ulta- If you do not have a program that opens ms documents, see if you can right click on it and open it with notepad. Also- Try looking for Open Office by Java I think. It is free. It opens Word docs, spreads sheets and everything that Microsoft Office does.

Concerning excludes, try choosing autogen AND also check the box at the bottom that says 'all objects'. ADE also now has a neat feature- that green thing- polygon. This is a neat way to get rid of stock airport backgrounds. Draw a poly across the airport... It does not have to cover the whole airport. (I usually draw a poly maybe a few hundred ft wide and rather long- just so it slashes through some of the airport) then I might choose in properties (clicking on the edge of your new poly and choosing properties if the prop dialog doesn't show right away)...top box choose 'airport background' - bottom box choose exclude autogen, flatten, maskclass. (something like that- you can experiment with it.)

Then save your airport (into where your airport scenery folder is), then shut down FSX and then compile airport. (to the same folder.)

My apologies if you know all this already. Bob

Thanks so much for the help concerning the exclude. I've now looked at the readme for that object, and it said to install it like a normal scenery (put it in Addon Scenery/activate in the game), but it still doesn't appear as a selectable object in the menu. That's really what I'm looking for help with. Thanks again.

Having not used the ability in ADE to place objects I'm not sure how to do it.
I use Instant Scenery. but if you are placing an object with whatever tool you are using, it must go into an active scenery folder.

Let us say you just made an airport called Fly-by-night Air with an ID of EDXX. OK- you have now a folder called Fly-By-Night with scenery and texture folder inside.

(pardon me if you know this already)

You just made a hangar and want to place it at EDXX.
1. Navigate to Fly-By... \scenery folder. 2. If you haven't made a scenery file yet, make it now - Let's call it Fly-By buildings.bgl but usually you do not type .bgl. Your app will do that for you. Now add (click) your hangar. Your hangar will now reside in Fly-by buildings.bgl

If yoiu are making any libraries for this scenery I would suggest to put the library- ies in this scenery sub-folder as well.

I think this is what you were looking for, but I think I may have misunderstood. If so give clarification; I'll stay with you on this. Unless someone else here has figured things out already. Bob

Library Objects

First make sure that you have the library bgl file installed in FSX. Sounds like you have done that. Now to to the Tools menu in ADE and select Library Object Manager. At the bottom of the LOM window is a button to Add Objects; Click that and in the file open dialog navigate to the bgl file with the objects in and select it. After a few moments a box will come up telling you how many objects are being added to ADE. Click OK and they will be added. You will now be able to find them when you want to add them.

Excluding Objects

First ADE will automatically load stock objects when you open a stock airports (or load stock data if it is an addon airport). To remove these from FSX all you need to do is delete them in ADE. You should not need to create your own excludes for these - indeed it is possible that sometimes user added exclusions can cancel out the ones that ADE creates.

Second there are two types of object (as mentioned above) Those that can be deleted by exclusion rectangles and those that cannot. The ones that cannot are usually autogen and include trees. To get rid of these you need to use a terrain polygon - see section 15 of the manual for information on how to use these.
