• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Instant Scenery

Hi,
first, happy easter. Today i've seen this new product at the Flight1 website Has anybody knowledge or infos about this tool?

The difference, what i can see of the first view, of Ez-Scenery is, that this tool allow us to change the "scenery complexity setting". I think, it sounds good.

Not to be too critical here, but the headline on this product says: "The Easiest Way To Make Scenery."

I doubt, given the nature of the product, you could "make" any scenery with it at all. What you can do, seems to me, is "place" scenery already made.

It's basically the Object Placement Tool, without the ability to make missions ... it seems to allow you to place scenery and then save the .bgl file out.

My mini-review: Save your $$.

Flight Simulator X is available on Amazon for $47.00 USD. That's for an entire flight simulator. Flight-1 wants more than half that ($25.00USD) for a glorified Object Placement Tool that can't do everything the original Object Placement Tool can do.

If I'm missing something here, please chime in.

The problem with the Object Placement Tool is the peculiar viewing window. I tried the InstantScenery demo for about 2 minutes before I decided to purchase.

It is developed by the author of EZ-Scenery. He changed from Abacus to Flight1 a few months ago. It should do what is says on the Label :)

I guess you are indeed paying for a more user friendly tool. The Object Placement tool has great functionality, but it contains too much bugs to be really easy to use.

Arno,

I wonder if you could expound more on these bugs.

I use the Object Placement Tool quite a lot. I have found that it is certainly quirky (the window won't resize, etc.), and there are things I would like to see it do that it doesn't (preview thumbs of scenery), but I have not found that there are bugs which make it an unuseable tool.

Which bugs have you noticed?

Hi,

The biggest bug I have found is that when you reload a XML file to add some other objects, most of the previously placed objects do not show anymore. An empty bounding box shows, which you can not select and move.

Another bug is that custom objects are listed by their GUID and not by their friendly name. Which makes it quite hard to select your own objects easily.

Not really bugs, but very unfriendly things are the way objects can be selected. Some filtering on that is really needed, as the list is much to long. And of course the non-resizing window that you mention (but I have a dual monitor setup, so that does not trouble me as much).

Another bug is that custom objects are listed by their GUID and not by their friendly name.
That is also true with InstantScenery but as you scroll through the list they appear in the FSX window. There is also the option to show thumbnails (if available) from which to select.

Can't see the objects

I can not see objects in FS9, if not first open the scenery with "Instant scenery" made whith it. The objects are trees of the library ag_trees.

Honestly it's a cool tool. I use it to place lots of objects for fun. Just remember, to move the Addon Scenery folder to top of the scenery priorty list or you wont see the objects you placed.

if you liked the detailed design of your own objects so this software is certainly not an option, but for a few people out there of course this software is very usefull, very instant.

my choose still to OPT

cheers :D

When the same happen in FSX, I delete the contents of the folder "C: \ Documents and Settings \ All Users \ Application Data \ Microsoft \ FSX \ SceneryIndexes", and starting FSX, the new indices are generated and placed with Instant Scenery object that unseen, seen. But in FS9, do not know how to do the same.

Absolutely not so ...

The problem with the Object Placment tool is the workflow .. it is a clunky interface that makes precision placement difficult.

Instant Scenery (now version 2) makes precision placement and editing much easier ... and can easily place objects of your own from custom libraries (in fact, that's almost exclusively what I use it for)

.... no I have no financial interest in the prduct, but it has made my life MUCH easier.

I apologize for my difficulties in English, but I'll try to make myself understood well:
I have no problem with "Instant Scenery", on the contrary, I am very happy with its use.
The problem is that there is a file within a scenery, kept there as a scenery of "Instant Icenery" that FS9 does not open by itself.
In order to see the default library trees ("ag_trees") I need open it with "Instant Scenery".

It seems likely that Instant scenery is saving to a directory that is not active in your scenery library entries.

The scenery will appear when loaded into Instant Scenery, but will not be apparent to the sim. Make sure the bgl file that you are saving to is in an active scenery directory, along with all relevant libraries.

Having only used this for FSX, there may be some other quirky behaviour in FS9 with which I am not familiar.

To me the same thing happens. I have designed many scenarios for FSX.
When the same thing happens in FSX I delete the contents of the folder of indexes en .. / Documents and settings / user / application data / Microsoft / FSX / ...
Then I start FSX and indexes are generated again and the scenery that did not appear, appears now and is not necessary to open it with "Instant Scenery" to be seen.
But in FS9 folder's index does not exist or at least not there.
