• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Does MCX require LM textures to be created before importing my .dae file from Sketchup or can MCX create the LM files from normal daylight textures?

I ask because MCX can't find any LM textures when I apply night textures in the Materials Editor within MCX. It gives me the message "Failed to load LM textures...".
I can see all the normal daylight textures loaded in MCX so I'm wondering if this is the issue.

MCX does not create night textures by itself, so you need to make sure they already exist. You create them in your graphics editor, just like the day textures.

Thanks Arno, just working on that now. It’s an airport terminal building with lots of windows. I've got MCX to now 'see' the LM files.
Should I make those windows_LM images black or a pale yellow to display as night time windows? I might be getting a bit confused with working with alphas in the past. I'm assuming that I should colour the LM images the way I'd expect to see them in reality...

For scenery using LM textures, you need to color them as you would see them at night, with lit up windows if desired. At night, the LM texture will completely replace the day texture. At dusk and dawn, the two textures will be blended.

Hi Tom. That's the assumption I've been working with...as I would expect to see them.

I've got the LM textures working. The windows display as expected at night but the walls of the building are very bright no matter how dark the relevant building LM is. If I hide the LM, of course the building is black. So way too bright.

Given that my model has about thirty textures, it would be nice to work on this one LM texture without having to go through the whole MCX process each time where I have to correct each texture to the power of 2, change format and then wait fifteen minutes for drawcall analysis only to repeat again half an hour later.

So, I've been working on my building LM in Photoshop, saving as a targa file and using DXTBmp for output.

On my night textures the walls are extremely dark, otherwise they light up too brightly as you see.
