• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS Just plain Water Runways for Seaplane Base Network

As of now MSFS 2020 offers little incentive for developers to produce proper flying boats to let us relive the Golden Age of Seaplane Aviation.

To pave the way for that, seaplane pilots should be able to jump into the game and already be on the water no matter what continent (and not just largely only the US). The minimum requirement for this is that there are water runways available ideally at historical places. Nothing fancy, just water runways and maybe mooring spots (if that is possible) so you can start out cold and dark. No 3D art, no objects and ramps for now (although open for this if anyone wants to).

I have some very limited experience in ADE from FSX days. But I do not know the limitations and possibilities of the "new" game engine and so my being able to realize such a project is kind of questionable. Would anybody be interested to look into that with me? I could do research as to what places could or should be covered or anyone could maybe help me to get into the necessary tools so I would be able to do it myself?

Flying boats and early aviation of the 1920s/1930s are a passion of mine and not being able to recreate all those adventures because of the lack of seaplane bases (and of course to this moment lack of vehicles too) just bugs me to no end. I think that a worldwide net of even not a great many of bases but spread between important locations like Soerabaja, Wake, San Diego etc. could offer great opportunities to fill that gap of aviation history that spans from the infancy of aviation right to the early 1950s.

Hello Knallgiraffe,
Have you found a way to define an aquatic area as a landing strip?
For my scene, I defined an area of the airport at the end of the runway as [DOCK_GA] but I did not find the way to define that this area is aquatic and therefore reserved for seaplanes
If anyone has any ideas and suggestions, we are interested. Thanks in advance :)

I just put a taxi-parking point type of DOCK_GA in there and it worked. But I put that dock quite a bit away from shore, can it be that MSFS considers your dock still a landmass? Try to push that parking spot further out and see what happens. I am also too new in this as to be of great help lol.

Thanks for your return.

Unfortunately, that doesn't work in my case.
Each time I move the DOCK_GA away, MSFS recalculates the size of the airport in order to include the DOCK_GA in its perimeter.
And since the airport is not defined as an aquatic airport, the DOCK_GA cannot be defined as a water surface and the seaplane is not positioned directly on the lagoon.

I tried adding a second airport by following Rhumbaflappy's post : https: //www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/msfs-hangs-on-loading-after-adding-airport-made-with-sdk .453816 / post-892152 but also unsuccessful.

If anyone knows how in an airport it is possible to define a hard runway and an aquatic area, do not hesitate;)
Thank you.
