• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Lights Not Showing

Don,

The center line and taxiway lights are not visible. When I use CONNECT the taxiway and center line lights are visible, but extremely bright (too much bloom).

The Edge Lights and the their stands are visible.

It is obvious that I am not doing something correct. Maybe I just need to go back to stock lighting and using ADEX?

You haven't given me much to works with, Bluestar. Also, I don't know what you mean by "CONNECT".

As a minimum, I need the Project Folder for the airport (see user manual) and your airport definition file (.bgl, .xml or .ad4)So I can see what you've done and what you are trying to do. It would also be helpful to know what version of AFLT you are using and for what version of FS/P3D you are compiling.

I did encounter an initialization problem when compiling for P3D, but have since been unable to no duplicate it. However, it is not connected to your issue, since P3D crashes when it happens. Fortunately, the problem seems to go away after a re-compile. I'll eventually find it!

As to your issue, it appears that you are attempting to use inverse-mipmapped effects with P3D. I would ask you to re-read the sticky above that introduces Version 4.3.10. It quite clearly states that effects with P3D are problematic. I'[m working on that issue and have had some success. But, it will likely be another week or two before I can release an update in that regard.

Please try again using LOD-variable lights as your source.

Don,

I'm not using inverse-mipmapiped effects. I am using LOD-variable size. I just double checked my compile for the file I sent to you and the LOD Variable Size circle has the black dot on the compile screen.

My apologies for bothering you with this. It's obvious operator error and I need to go back to what I know.

Please take care,

It appeared from the Project.ini file you sent that you were attempting to use Inverse mipmaps. If not, the apology is mine to make.

I did not have any difficulty with taxiways lights. They were included in the data you sent and they were visible However, I didn't check the entire airport. Is this a localized problem?

I have another airport that has the same issue.

The runway center line lights also do not appear. The taxiway and runway edge lights with there mounting stands appear, but any light that is to be on the surface does not appear.

Since I can't duplicate this issue, I'm wondering if maybe its a local issue. One thing that will suppress lights is if there are multiple copies of AFLT-generated .bgls covering the same airport. This could happen, for example, if you created two or more projects for the same airport and didn't delete any existing files before compiling new ones. (I did this several times during testing of AFLT)

You didn't specify if all lights of a given type were suppressed, or only those in a certain area of the airport

Please send me the files for the second airport so that I may compare them with those for KSPS to see if there is any commonalities

I've just started on this airport, so it still has a ways to go.

The suppressed lights do not show on any part of the airport.

I took your files, compiled the AD4 into a BGL file, created an AFLT project, compiled the project into a P3D Addon, purged the ADE BGL and added the ADE BGLs to the Addon, and this is what I get - all lights seem to be there:

I can send my P3D Addon if you wish; it's a little large to attach here.

Thanks for the second set of files. Bluestar. As before, I get taxiway edge and centerline light at KSUU as wells. Given that Tom is also seeing what I'm seeing at KSPS, that would seem to lend credence to it being a "local" problem.

I trust you are aware that AFLT uses the Documents\Prepar3D v4 Addons folder to save all files. That means your scenery folder (as far as AFLT is concerned) is Documents\Prepar3D v4 Addons\AFLT for P3D\Scenery. Are you saving your files elsewhere, e.g., in the Addon Scenery folder which you would have had to create. If so, and if its not my "duplicate files theory", the perhaps that's the problem.

Don and Tom,

Thanks for your help. I am going to look into the Documents\Prepar3D v4 Addons folder one more time. If there is not a problem there, I am going to delete all AFLT folders/files and give it one more try.

I will keep you updated.

Thanks again.

Deleting all AFLT folders and files isn't going to help if you are using another scenery folder for some part of your airports. I strongly suspect what's happening is that you've got files spread across two (or more) sets of folders. For AFLT to work, everything must be in Documents/Prepar3D v4 Addons\AFLT for P3D.

This is a new airport just for testing. The runway lights were deleted when I built the scenery in ADEX. As can be seen when AFLT (Simobjects) is "Connect", right screen, the center line lights and edge lights appear. When I run "Disconnect", left screen, the edge lights appear since they are above ground on top of the light fixture.

I did a complete uninstall/reinstall of AFLT. It was placed in E:\ Airfield Lights. A shortcut was created and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR checked.

A new folder was created on start up KCSM. When I ran AFLT I added the runway edge and center line lights. Then I ran Compile Data and Save Placement Data.

OK, but the issue has been taxiway edge and centerline lights.

Also, what are you expecting to accomplish using Connect/Disconnect. The lights are connected by default.

Don't know which is right screen or left screen. From what I see, when you Disconnect, all the AFLT-generated lights disappear (not the associated 3D models).

It's not clear what you are trying to convey with this post.

From Page 8 of the AFLT Manual " When you start P3D, a small dialog containing two buttons: Connect and Disconnect, is created and minimized. This dialog, which has no use normally (but cannot be suppressed) can assist you in testing and allows you to make changes to the lights without having to restart P3D each time."

It was my understanding that this tool was to aid in testing and not necessary for the airfield lights to work. Are the lights generated by AFLT going to look like the image on the right above and the AFLT (Simobjects) box necessary for the lights created by AFLT to be displayed?

The Connect/Disconnect dialog simply turns the SimConnect connection on and off. When on, the lights are displayed, when off they are not. As the manual says, by turning off the Simconnect connection you can update the files without having to restart P3D. The lights generated using LOD Variable as the source look like the lights above.

But, what does this have to do with the missing taxiway lights?

That is what I am trying to find out. I don't have any taxiway or runway center line lights, i.e. anything that is surface to be on the flush with the surface does not show.

Don, let's just let it go. For whatever reason AFLT doesn't work on my system.

Thanks for attempting to help me.

Grace and Peace,

I don’t understand, your picture of KCSM shows that the runway center lights appear when you press Connect, exactly what should be happening. Those are surface lights, and they appear. What am I missing?
