• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

quick question- My list object button- I open this and there is my library I made.... man or most have the name - fsds object instead of the name i gave it. Is there something I did wrong? Haven't seen this lately. Bob

If you are importing a BGL file with library objects, I believe you also need to have the text file that often accompanies such library BGL files in the same folder as that BGL file to get the name listing.

Hope this helps,

I always have the txt file. It is in the same scenery library as the bgl. done that for years. Not sure if MCX reads it from there or what.
BTW- If Arno sees this- there's a PM for him concerning NL2000.

Hi,

For fsx libraries the names are read from the bgl file. But for fs2004 libraries the names are not stored in the bgl, so then the txt file should work. If that doesn't, I would be interested to check that specific library and see what goes wrong.

I use library maker for IS2. Just noticed this happening. always keep the bgl and the txt in the scenery sub-folder. I'll look further and let you know.

also- question re: NL2000 missing textures. Bob

Arno- et al- It just dawned on me a possible reason fo rme seeing some- not all- items called FSDS object. To economize and make the entire scenery package smaller, I pulled a number of items from our friend's library which was an FS9 library into a library of my own making, then added my objects. Ergo- some objects were originally S9, whereas my objects are FSX.

This is probably the best reason since my good friend deals with FS9 and never includes any txt file with his bgl library. (MCX wouldn't read it anyway, but it makes it hard to knkow what object is what! He does FS9. My friend and I take his good work (he approves btw) and make it fit FSX (which can be trying at times!) We've helped each other over the years this way.

BTW- NL2000 message to Arno- I believe I was on non- admin acct before I installed the library. It seemed odd when it did install.

I since did the admin procedure, then installed the libraries (4.0.3) something like that. then redid my admin thing in Win 7. result- no missing textures. finely done sceneries! thank you. Bob

Hi,

If they are called fsds object, then it must be fsx objects with that name in it. If modelconverterx can't find the name, it uses the filename plus a number.

Send from my phone using Tapatalk, so excuse the short sentences and possible typos

Makes sense since some objects were taken from an FS9 library download with no txt with it.

When doing this, is it better to keep anything compiled with makemdl in a separate library from anything compiled with xtomdl? Bob

It was my understanding that you couldn't mix such FS9 and FSX objects in a single library BGL?

As I remember (and my memory is soooooo good!) :p you can mix them but not advisable.

I've done it of and on with no appreciable problems, but once I think I did have a problem.

My Stronsay scenery (just north of Scapa Flow, Scotland) I made a animated gate with makemdl so I could modify the asm file in CAT. I then included this in my library file for my stronsay, FSX scenery.

This worked but I noticed I had one H*ll of a time orienting the gate right. It always showed about 90 degrees off! I finally got it to show right.... just had to fuss with it.

this might have been due to putting this makemdl item in with xtomdl items in the same library. it worked but it was a hassle. If this is so, I don't think I will do that again. :) Bob

Correct, you can't mix them. You need to fs2004 bglcomp for the fs2004 mdl files and the fsx bglcomp for fsx mdl files.

So- If I am using both types of files I should keep the FS9 stle in one library and the FSX style in another library. If Iput them all in one library I could end up with unintended conscequences - one o fwhich I describes above. ? Bob

Hi,

Yes, they go in two libraries. But you can't put them in one, you will get a compilation error in that case. So the problems you describe can't be caused by this.
