• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Mapping problem

Although I have been using Photoshop for years if I didn't have it I would certainly use GIMP. It's the best freeware photo editor/paint software I have ever seen.

Thanks for all your program suggestion. But since this boat (and maybe the dinghy) will be the only project I plan to work with, I will do my best with Paint.net. I am not into photo editing at all so there is no use in getting all sorts of other program that I am only going to use once. Learning one program will be enough for me.

Lionheart, most on my model I plan on using solid colors for now. For most of the trimming I will try to find a nice wood grain image and apply that, and for the cabin wall, I will leave with G-max colors for now. At least until I master texturing on my hull.

I did run into a small problem with my glass texture. By adding a green color in my map file to get a tint, some of the panels behind the glass disappears. I am pretty sure it has something to do with the color that I am using on them witch gets filtered by the green and it makes those panels diapered.

The 2 brown panels that you see thru the open door disappears when looking thru the windows, and I can see the lower cabin windows behind those panels.

BTW, here is a pick of my hull, mapped on 2 sheets

Next is painting it adding the "water boot" line.

You guys know that Adobe has been giving away Photoshop CS2 absolutely FREE for the past few years, right?

http://gizmodo.com/5973730/grab-photoshop-and-cs2-for-absolutely-free-right-here

Download and install the free nVidia plugin for DDS file loading and saving, and you have a very nice and robust professional grade system for your studio absolutely FREE! :coffee:
You might want to look at this. I grabbed it from the Adobe site.

If you purchased a CS2 product, and you no longer have the installation media, you can download replacement installers from this page.
Read before you download a CS2 product
Adobe has disabled the activation server for CS2 products, including Acrobat 7, because of a technical issue. These products were released more than seven years ago, do not run on many modern operating systems, and are no longer supported.

Adobe strongly advises against running unsupported and outdated software. The serial numbers provided as a part of the download may only be used by customers who legitimately purchased CS2 or Acrobat 7 and need to maintain their current use of these products.

I've had CS2 Photoshop running in Win7 since long before it became free, so do pay close attention to Adobe's advice...

Well, I signed in and I was able to get access to the downloading area and a links are alive :scratchch
If there is not activation servers and everybody can get the installation files, Adobe can trust in people to be honest?
If you ask me, it is some sort "of danza del diablo" / "devil's dance"

Well folks
Here is what I have up to now.
My hull is painted as I want, except I might want to change the color. But now that my Bitmap master file is done, that is easy to do. Finding the right color to match with the Philippine Mahogany trim will bet the hard part. I don't have much of an eye for color coordination. Most of the other parts are just done with plain UV map and a color square, mostly made up of wood pattern images for the different wood used for different parts and a color square for the inside and outside of cabins.

Here are just a few pictures:

I remember reading about collapsing the stack to miminize draw calls
If later on I want to change from just a simple UV map with a color square to a full UV map for fancy painting, will I still be able to do this if I colaple the simple UVmap that I have now?

Michel

The object will retain the mapping after you collapse the stack provided you do not edit the object. You can add an Unwrap UVW Modifier to the stack later and the original mapping will be there.

As far as I know you do not have to collapse the stack. The export converts everything to a mesh. I always retain my stack.

Well done Michel! As Paul says, you don't have to collapse the stack. It's only needed if your model is big or complex enough that Gmax is running out of memory and I doubt you've got that problem yet.
