• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Maps for Sbuilder

Hello Garry,

It took me 10 mins to get my Papa Westray VTTP once the little grey cells burst into life.

If you tell me how to go about it I'll use your method !!

I didn't get that I need sbuilderX to produce bmps like the one you sent, to use in my Sbuilder.
OK - I'll give it a whirl so please resend your read-me/tutorial.

Which read-me / tutorial were you wanting me to resend (there are quite a few that I've posted here over the years) ? :scratchch

Ummmmmmmmmmm the one that produces bmps for sbuilder like the one you sent, I'm loosing track of it all !

Hi Terry:

I almost forgot to post a link to a recent thread with a walk-through of how to install SBuilderX.

It has been a while since I installed SBuilderX on Win-7, so if you need an automatic VB6 installer, I cite one in this post:

Thanks Gary. I'll give it a whirl when I get some time to spare.
I'm dealing with 2 neighbours with physical injuries......a nasty fall & then a dropped kettle & leg scalds.

Terry.

helo guys, I was reading the thread, and I'm trying to search some updated google apis for sbuilder x, where can I download the newest apis for sbuilder??

Hi Davide:

Are you asking where to find satellite imagery that is more recent than that accessed by SBuilderX via its tile downloader ? :scratchch

If so, please state:

* Which airport ICAO

* How far outwards (Kilometers) from its Airport Reference Point (aka "ARP")

* Newer than what date

...you want satellite imagery for. :scratchch

Hi Davide:

If you require more info and discussion than what is already discussed on Page 1 of this same thread:

https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/maps-for-sbuilder.453170/post-887382

...it is best that you start a new thread for your separate topic here:

PS: This is a brief overview of the initial work-flow:

1.) Download / install Google Earth Desktop Edition:

https://dl.google.com/tag/s/appguid={65E60E95-0DE9-43FF-9F3F-4F7D2DFF04B5}&iid={65E60E95-0DE9-43FF-9F3F-4F7D2DFF04B5}&lang=en&browser=4&usagestats=1&appname=Google%20Earth%20Pro&needsadmin=True&brand=GGGE/earth/client/GoogleEarthProSetup.exe

2.) Click:

https://iw.toolforge.org/wp-world/e...5278&name=Lamezia_Terme_International_Airport

3.) In Google Earth Menu > View > Historical Imagery > Click arrow at right end of timeline slider: newest date is April 2022.

4.) Download / Install SBuilderX 3.15 (64-bit); configure to not reproject tiles ...as described on the first page of this thread.

NOTE: If you intend to use tiles for custom photo-real imagery land class textures, do configure SBuilderX.ini to reproject tiles

5.) SBuilderX Menu > View > View Background

6.) SBuilderX Menu > View > Go To Position > Enter Lat / Lon Geographic Coordinates for LICA:

Lon= 16.242222 Lat= 38.905278

7.) SBuilderX Menu > File > Add Map > From > Background > Select tiles to be downloaded; follow instructions here:

Terrain Design

sendfile.php

File Description:
Terrain Design for Flight Simulator X

This simple illustrated document explains the basic concepts in Flight Simulator X terrain, and how to change them using SBuilder for FS X. Make new water bodies, roads, vehicle traffic, airport flattens, remove autogen, add more detail - anybody can do it easily and quickly.
My most sincere apologies - I am unable, for lack of free time, to offer support of any kind. For questions or problems, please post in the Avsim scenery design forum.

To make more accurate FS scenery, you are likely to also encounter these topics at some point as well:

Make photo-real ground textures

sendfile.php

File Description:
It is very easy to create your very own high-resolution, custom (photo-real) ground textures. This document explains the concepts and techniques and illustrates the use of SBuilderX with which you can quickly and easily download aerial images and make this type of scenery. So, why hesitate? Make Flight Simulator scenery as real as it gets! Very sorry - no support of any kind is offered. Please do not write. For any questions, please post in the Avsim Scenery Design Forum.

Using the Autogen Annotator

sendfile.php

File Description:
The Autogen Annotator is a powerful tool for modifying the autogen of default ground textures or adding autogen to custom (photo-real) ground. This document illustrates the use of the tool, and includes a pictorial guide to all autogen object types. Very sorry - no support of any kind is offered. Please do not write. For any questions, please post in the Avsim Scenery Design Forum.

You may also wish to review at least the first few pages of this (long) very informative thread by Tiberius et al:

Hope this helps with the learning process on this topic.

You might struggle to find any images much newer than March 2022.

As well as all the excellent tutorials Gary mentions (and which I use all the time), you can very easily download historical images from Google Earth Pro, which can be very helpful for ADE. These aren’t of the kind of resolution you can achieve in SBX or FSET, but can be extremely helpful if you’re trying to model a specific period.
