FS2004 Material Editor Bug

This has been happening for a while now. Sorry, but I didn't make a note of which build it started with. When importing dae files, some of the native SU colors don't appear in the preview window. If I export to an mdl, those colors don't show in FS9 either. I found that when you look at these colors in the material editor, they have an "0, " appended to the beginning of the RGB values. Once I remove it, all if fine and the color shows in the preview window and in FS9. Let me know if you need the dae file.

Hi,

That 0 means they are completely transparent. A DAE file for testing would be very useful.

I just emailed it to you, Arno. I double checked the colors in Sketchup, and the ones I had a problem with were 100% opaque. The problem does not happen with all colors...it seems to be random.

Thanks, I am going to take a look. I made some improvements to this code a little while ago, but there might be a few bugs left.

Hi,

I am a bit confused. When I read the COLLADA specifications again I think ModelConverterX is reading the data correctly.

When I import your COLLADA file back into SketchUp those parts are also transparent, so that seems to interpret the file in the same way.

Which version of SketchUp are you using? And could I maybe have a look at the SketchUp file as well?

I think you're right that MCX is reading the data corrrectly. Clip 1 shows the building in Sketchup. Clip 2 shows the exported COLLADA in MCX. Notice the sections of corner trim that show in SU but not in MCX. I get the same result you did when I import the uncorrected COLLADA file back into Sketchup.

SU version 8.0.411. I'll email you the SU file.

Thanks I got the file. I will take a look. Might be a bug in their COLLADA exporter.

Hi,

I think it is a SketchUp bug. In changed the colour slightly in SketchUp and then exported again as COLLADA. Now it shows fine in ModelConverterX.

Thanks for taking the time to look into it, Arno. I just now downloaded an updated version of Sketchup....maybe they fixed it. :)

Hi,

Yes, I read they changed the COLLADA export, so maybe.... Still need to check it myself as well.

Still broke. Oh well. It's easier for me to fix it in MCX than go back and change the colors in SU.

Yes, I also saw that. But also when you load it into SketchUp it is still broken as well.

No, but it helps me to asses if it is a tool or a file problem :).

Arno meant "assess". He means that it is a way to decide whether MCX is causing the problem, or the problem is in the Sketchup COLLADA exporter. It appears to be an exporter problem...
