• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Max Defiant Project

I have been having fun with the flight dynamics. :banghead:

I finally was able to bring her up to 16,000 ft (best cruise altitude) without burning up the engine. I was delighted to find an article with the test pilot's notes on the K8620 (just blind luck) which was the second prototype sporting the Merlin III. Now that I have a stable flight model I'm going to start making the 3d gauges to monitor the engine systems while I continue to tweak the FDs. :stirthepo

The project is on hold for a while. Last week my mother board bit the dust  and I'm in the process of moving back to Maine. :) I don't expect to have my computer back up and running for a couple of months but when I do I'll jump on it like white on rice. :p

I read "my mother bit the dust" at first and was mildly confused. Good luck with the move though. And my heartfelt sympathy that you couldn't beat your lobster addiction. But that's okay. We're only human.

A gift for Paul: a good image of the cockpit find on http://www.airpages.ru/uk :

Hello all,

After a major computer melt down and a 3,000 mile move across the country I am finally back up and running. With a new motherboard, CPU and memory upgrade I now for the first time ever can max the sliders in FS, WOW! Now I can get back to work on the Defiant among other things. Going from sunny southern California to frigid backwoods Maine :santahat: means I'm going to be spending a lot more time indoors so I wont have any excuse for not being productive, that's provided the wife doesn't think up a thousand ways to spend my time. :banghead:

For those of you who don't know, I drove across country and took the opportunity to visit the legend and mentor to a lot of us, Milton Shupe. I had the honor to spend a day with him and his lovely wife and you can't meet finer people. We discussed the history and future of add-on development for some time. Milton was a pioneer in development. Back then there was not much known about what was required to create add-on aircraft or scenery. Without the benefit of SDK documentation or tutorials he and others were digging into it what was required through trial and error then with the knowledge gained he shared it so that others could enjoy creating for this hobby that we so love. If you ever get the chance to be in his area then take the time to visit him.

Hopefully it won't be too long before I can post an update on the Defiant.

Paul

If your wife is anything like mine that list is but the opening salvo! Milton is a great guy: I don't know if we'll ever meet but I'd love to shake his hand for all his help over the years.

Thanks my friends. Daan, I certainly will.
Seems like everything on my computer has reached its limit. Yesterday the fan on the PSU started screeching then stopped and you could smell the hot wiring. I'm installing a new 700w PSU today.

Paul, I was studying your first screenshots on this post. You have adjustable Bezier Splines on the 3d model. I have only 'seen' things like this in other 3D design engines, mostly ones for making car designs and very 'fluid' organic shapes. That is wild stuff. I do not think you can do that in Max. That must be a powerful tool in Blendor.

Bill, thanks for the compliment. I was using methods based on things I saw you do. I work in 3ds Max Design 2015.

MY GOODNESS PAUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is awesome work, man! That texture sheet is brilliant! Great modelling work. Very impressed... Now to find my jaw, which didnt just drop but flew off my face and bounced off the screen... Must be around here somewhere...
