• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MCX - Development Release - Packaged files

Hi Folks

Arno -
My apologies if I'm barking up the wrong tree here,
if the issue lies elsewhere.
i.e. Me. :D

I always update MCX via the development release,
and do so at a minimum, once per week.

One of my pet 'wishes for'/'niggles with' MCX :duck:
has been the lack of ability to reposition an object by a couple of metres.

MCX rather than reading the object's current location from the BGL,
MCX always initialises the object to a default location in the Netherlands,
(I am aware the "default" location can be edited).

Today, I had cause to look at the wiki manual,
and was surprised to see a pic of the "Object information" form
which shows 'Position' entry fields for lat/lon/alt/heading.

The date of the wiki pic's upload
infers this functionality has been available at least since May 2012.

I'm using MCX v 1.4.0.0.r2337 Dev 14/05/2013
and for every model I've tried opening,
the "Object information" form does not contain these 'Position' fields.

Similarly the object placement "Map View" is non-functional,
possibly due to this missing postion data.
(See attached - MCX_Object_Placement_Map_Error.jpg)

Is it possible that the relevant dll(s)
were not incorporated in the development release ?
or were somehow dropped in later releases ?

I've attached a dirlist showing my MCX root folder's files,
(see attached mcx_dirlist_by_date.txt).

Keep up the great work.

Much appreciated.

Paul

How about the Object Placement tool?

When I click the button( Object_placement_button.jpg below ) I get a map. I can zoom with scroll wheel, pan the world map with right-click/drag, and can choose which map I view in the drop-down box( I have Google Satellite selected Object_placement.jpg below). If I click add, I get the add object dialogue( Object_placement.jpg below ). From there I can click in the Lat/Lon/Alt/Heading box and enter my desired numbers.

These images are from MCX v1.4.0.0.r2337 DEV 5/14/2013.

Is that what you wanted?

Hi Paul,

The object placement functionality has been moved to the object placement form. That was more logical when I added support for multiple placements of the same object.

The map error is usually fixed when doing a clean install. I think the problem is caused by an old DLL from previous versions.

Btw, the current version should read coordinates of objects if they are stored in the bgl file.

Ahh, it all makes sense now. :D

Clean install, and updated with latest development release.

"Map View" still shows the same error, (as per screenie in OP).

May be related -
In "Map View" typing anything into the search box, and submitting,
returns an error -
************** Exception Text **************
System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found.
at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse()
at ASToFra.MapRenderer.MapRendererControl.cmdSearch_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e)

I've disabled my HOSTS file,
and also turned off windows firewall,
in case they were the cause,
but the issue still persists.

Any suggestions ?

if they are stored in the bgl file.
Cheers Arno.
This aspect is working correctly.

Many thanks

Hi Paul,

Clean install, and updated with latest development release.

"Map View" still shows the same error, (as per screenie in OP).

The errors mentions a certain file could not be found. Just to double check, there is no DLL file with that name in your ModelConverterX folder right? It should not be there.

Nope, that is not releated. It seems Yahoo discontinued the service I used to get coordinates of place names. I see they have an alternative now, let's see if I can migrate to that.

Hi,

The search function is fixed in the next release.

Arno -
Are you referring to System.Data.SQLite.DLL ?

If so,
surely you mean it should be present in the MCX folder.

If some other file, please identify.

System.Data.SQLite.DLL -

As this file is present in the MCX folder,
I'd previously assumed the error on the screenie
to be related to one of its dependencies not loading
because an inappropriate paramater has been passed.

The version distributed in your MCX package is 1.0.66.0.

Looking at my error screenie again,
it appears I have a manifest somewhere
either my SxS/GAC/or whatever
which is explicity directing the call to version 1.0.74.0.

I'd have to check, but IIRC,
others had a similar issue with Plan-G,
which was solved by placing a manifest.config in Plan-G's folder.

I've had a quick look
and various apps use System.Data.SQLite.DLL
so I've set an explorer search running, to pull up all instances.

PS
Apparently the latest version of System.Data.SQLite is 1.0.85.0,
or is MCX using the forked version ?

Hi Arno

Cheers for your prompt response in fixing the "Map View"'s Search function.

From a trawl through my registry
the call to DB937BC2D44FF139 shown in the screenie
partially relates to the Replay Media Catcher plugin for firefox.

However it appears to be explicitly calling Version="1.0.66.0"

Code:
System.Data.SQLite,Version="1.0.66.0",Culture="neutral",PublicKeyToken="DB937BC2D44FF139",ProcessorArchitecture="x86"

So still looking.
PC now performing a "file content" search for DB937BC2D44FF139.
Results not expected till tomorrow.

Hi Paul,

If you look in the latest development release you will see that System.Data.Sqllite.dll is NOT part of the package anymore. That's why I asked you if you did a clean install. Remove the file from the ModelConverterX folder and the map should work.

Hi Arno

LMAO
I understand now. :o

I'd thought you installed the base package, v1.3.0,
then added the latest development release.

i.e. the latest development release was supplemental.

The map is displaying correctly,
and search box functioning also. :D

Need to have a play now with placements.

Many thanks

Hi,

Glad to hear it works now.

All releases are completely stand alone and don't require earlier versions. I just try to keep things simple :)

Does it say somewhere in the readme to remove the old one first? I've never done that before...

It doesn't say anything about that on the download page, and I see no text file included in the zip.

Hi,

No, the readme does indeed not say that are the moment.

It shouldn't be a problem in most cases, only when I remove DLL files from the package it can become a problem. Luckily I don't do that too often.

I should probably stress more that in case a problems a clean install can help. I am updating the documentation anyway now, since a stable release is coming.
