• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MCX suggestion

Hi Arno,

just a small suggestion. How about adding a feature that adds a night texture on the basis of a given normal texture? Like you select a texture in the material editor, click on a button, and MCX takes the texture, copies it, alters the copy by toning it down and saves the new texture with LM and adds the night texture entry in the material editor. I hope that's all there is to it.
I'm aware that I can do that externally, but this would speed up some workflows.

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Mark,

I have been thinking about this before. But it would be hard to know which part of the night texture have to light up at night and which not. So some manual editing would always be needed. I'll keep this on my wishlist.

I like this idea. Within MCX be able to select the texture you want to make into a night texture. Send it to an editor. Then have it save to MCX as a night texture automatically. Much easier for users.

Hi,

Yup, that would be nice for someone who does not want a particular night texture but as Arno pointed out, how do you know what to darken and what not? That is something you still have to do yourself and doing that you can also easily darken your texture yourself.
So I wonder what is the point?

What I mean is this; it took me some time to figure out how to get night textures to work. Because I haven't done it for awhile, it will probably take awhile again. It would be nice if I could open MCX, select a routine to make a night texture, select the texture, have it open in a graphics editor of my choice, alter the texture as I see fit, save the texture and have MCX do what it needs too and have it added to the model file.

I want to make my own night textures. I don't do it enough to remember the hoops I need to jump through to add night textures to MCX. I'm getting too old to jump much any more.

The current routine is to:

1. Open the Material Editor
2. Select the Day Texture
3. Click on the Nightmap Texture slot
4. Click on ...
5. Browse to your night texture
6. Click OK

I'm not sure how Arno could make it much easier?

I agree with Tom. It's already very simple. I'd hate to see MCX get weighed down with nonessential features.

Don't take it personal, Bob. :)
