• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MDCX - BGL file, add transparency to object?

Is it possible to add fully transparency to a bgl file in MDCX?
It is an airport building in question and the bgl file has hangars and other building in the same scene, but I only want the terminal to be fully transparent in order to remove it from the scene.

It is all one big scene.
I am allowed to tweak this bgl file by the author and have documented proof.
It would be much faster if I could tweak the bgl file in this way to achieve what I want, but there are other options to me.

Just want to see if it is possible this way in MDCX.
Working on a tight schedule for someone else.

Does the terminal have specific textures? Then you could remove those materials to get rid of the polygons.

I notice you said remove the materials and I took it for textures.
Should I try to delete the materials from inside MDCX?

Yes, you can do it from the material editor.

Okay it kinda worked.
But some small parts are a part of a bigger texture map also used for other objects.
Is it possible to make a specific texture transparent in MDCX by the way of alpha channels?

As to add it to the BGL model file?

Any changes you make to the material will affect the other buildings that use the same material as well. So that won't work.

I don't see a good way to do this, except export to another format, edit in a modelling tool and go to mdl from there again. But that might loose FS specific material settings.

Can you isolate the building in the Hierarchy editor? You could remove it that way. Also, an aspect of textureless/colorless models is that every face in the model that is "behind" the un-textured face is also invisible; it is as if a missing texture bores a hole through the model. You could try surrounding the building with an un-textured box. I do not know if the interior model will also be rendered invisible, but perhaps you could use the Merge Objects tool to add the invisible box to the building model, then that trick should work.

If you could create a copy of that material in MCX, edit it to create the transparency, and then apply it to the objects that need it, that would make it easy. :)

But in the mdl file all polygons with the same material are grouped, so probably you can't separate them anymore.

If this is an old style bgl it might help to disable the merge part option in the settings and see if that gives multiple parts to work with.

Hi Arno,

Sorry, I was just joking - you would need to include an ability to select certain polygons in MCX, something way beyond it's intended use. :)
