• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Merge object function in ModelConverterX

Hello,

I have version 1.6 of ModelconvertX.

As an experiment, I'm trying to test the "merge" function.

So I import an airplane model. I want to add antennas to it which are in an MDL file.

Only, I can't see the MDL added. Do I have to specify the XYZ axes before, or can I modify them after and see the object position itself according to the given value?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

With the default values the second object is added at the origin of the first object. You can specify an offset during the merge, but you can also find the specific nodes in the hierarchy editor and then edit the transformation there to move it to a different l location.

Hi,

I have resumed my experiences (for personal purposes) to export to FS9 an aircraft model with ModelConverterX (latest development version).

I took a 747-200 from FAIB in FS9 version. I added with the Merge function an antenna model that I had made with Sketchup and previously converted to MDL (FS9 too).

The 2 assembled models have a perfect rendering. The compilation to FS9 goes smoothly.

When I view the new model in AI Aircraft Editor, everything is really perfect. My goal of having a model of E-4B with its antennas is coming to an end.

Once I go to FS9 to see the plane, it is there. There is a defect. The wings are visible through the fuselage. So when I turn around the plane, I see the wings through everything.

On the other hand, the added antennas are perfectly present and do not pose any problem.

So what would be the solution to no longer see the wings through the fuselage?

is the fuselage partially transparent?
No, the fuselage is not transparent.

It does look like a drawing order issue. Do you also get it when you just import the FS2004 model and then export it again without merging your new part in?

I would suspect it has something to do with an alpha channel in a material being seen as transparency while it should be reflection.
