• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Model Extraction?

I have some scenery bgl files that have scenery objects with location information.

How do I remove the location information so the objects can be placed by ADE?

There may be a shorter way, but saving as an MDL file and creating a library BGL file using a utility like Library Creator is one way. You might be able to use the new library BGL functions in MCX, if it can create a new library BGL file?

If the models are intended to be used only in one airport then you could use the mdl files directly with ADE.

If you put them in a library then be sure that the GUID is changed from the original otherwise it could confuse FS!

Thanks.

I forgot that after extracting the model I had to make a library. After doing that it almost worked.

There seem to be a problem with this object. The converted object displays correctly in MCX but not when installed in an airport. Then it is off axis and has two textures missing.

The missing textures most likely cause the offset. So I would try to find those textures first.

The object displays OK in MCX. So the textures are there.

I have no clue about the rotation offset.

Are you loading this object from an active scenery folder in FS? If not, the textures may not be in FS.

I have the object and the textures installed in the same base folder. Secenry and texture.

The object displays correctly in MDX.

The original objects were compiled with the location data and were used with SS9/FS2004.

But they located wrong when used with FSX.

But other than the location with FSX they did display properly

And they look just fine in MCX.

What I did was extract the models with MCX then create a library with LCX.

I'm having different problems with a different object.

Here's the new problem.

The object is the Marine Air Terminal at La Gaurdia. Stolen from Tom Gibson/Cal Classics.

This object was made for FS9/FS2004. It has the location in the BGL so it is not relocatable using ADE.

I want to use it with FSX. But the location is out in the river.

I used MCX to create the MDL file.
I then used LCX to create the library file.

If i use the library file alone the is sunk into the ground.

But if I put the original FS9 file in the directory the library object sits on to of the ground like it should.

I've never seen this before!

IDEAS?

If it is a FSX model then the GUID is embedded in the model. If it is a FS9 model then the GUID is defined by the code that creates the library. So for FS9 you set the GUID with, for example, Library Creator XML

Thanks Jon,

I did figure out how to change the GUID last night.

The new one is not influanced by the original now. It just does not work correctly.

I think this one is hopeless and I am giving up for now.

I'll just go play somewhere else.
