• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

modelconverterx messing up my animations, help?

hi, all. i realized that modelconverterx is translating my 3ds max animations wrong. one of the flap mechanisms is on top of the flap instead of in between the fairing. the right flap appears smaller than the left flap and i applied the reset xform modifier and unlinked the flap. how can i fix this?

but all normal in 3dx max

here , the mechanism is where it should be, on the inboard flap:

From which format did you load it into MCX? Of it is MDL, does the sim show the animation right?

update: i fixed the animation on both inner flaps . the problem now here is that the inner right flap still is smaller than the right in scale. i even reset the pivot, unlinked it to anything that may cause it. it scales as normal in 3ds max but not in modelconverterx:

I fixed the flaps, it was a pivot issue. Now i'm trying to work the lights. the nav lights appear in 3ds max:

but not in mcx and p3d, how can i fix this? i use the fx_navgre , fx_navred and fsx_navwhi for the lights . no visibility condition on the wing nav lights. could the effect be an issue? what effects should i use and how should i configure them so that the lights face outward (for taxi lights on the fuselage and wing inspection lights?:

I cannot see the material for the navlight glass in the heirarchy. it is not listed, how should i make sure it is in the heirarchy so that it can show up on the model?

I will, hold on, of the lights. the nav light is in the config, but i was able to take a picture of the aircraft's lights in the sim. the lights do not have a beam except the beacons. Nav lights only show the color green or red, not a beam that shines around the wingtip to the ground. same for the strobe , landing and wing lights. the lights and interior lights are white blotches. the cargo hold lights and the logo lights are the only ones that seem ok but, there is no beam and no ground illumination (of the nav, strobe, landing, wing lights (for left and right engine) . How do i fix this?:

The navglass now shows (because i forgot to make them visible using light_nav_vis and for taxi lights and landing lights i use general_light as visibility. does that work ? which effects and visibility conditions should i use? nav lights are not in the attach point in the heirarchy. here is what i have for the taxi lights:

nav lights where there is supposed to be a beam:

Also is it possible to angle the landing lights slightly downwards? how should i do this? for the taxi+wing lights plus i have been trying to work on the landing gear bay lights ( facing down)

My NAV lights do not light up the ground, so I can’t help you there. As far as I know, any lights based on the default effects listed in the aircraft.cfg file will not light up the ground.

The way to get beams shining on the ground is to use the fx_landing effect. Here is how to set that up in the attached object editor:

The orientation numbers set the direction of the beam.

From my tutorial:

8. The axes will help us get the light shining in the right direction. The green axis will point the way the light will shine - we need it to be pointing forward when it should be shining on the ground. Click on the Orientation line, drag across it to highlight the entire line, and type in (0;0;90) You should include the parentheses. Note the numbers are separated by semicolons. Click the Position line to see your changes. If your plane has fixed landing lights then this should point the green line forward, just what we want.
