• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Moving Platform Issue

Hi guys,

I hope someone can help me out with this one. I have created a Royal Navy Invincible class aircraft carrier in sketchup, used MCX to create an FSX mdl (fantastic tool btw!), and added a platform using the attached object editor.

When I convert the mdl to a static BGL and place it within FSX everything works great and I can land, take off etc etc.

I've now created a moving carrier with an associated track (using aibtc), and here is where the problem lies. When I land on the deck and come to a stop, the carrier continues steaming on but the aircraft speed is 0 relative to the ground and not to the deck surface.....ergo I eventually fall off the back of the deck and into the drink!.

I have tried various aircraft including the default FSX microlight and all with the same problem. These aircraft do not exhibit the same problem with other developers carriers (Ark Royal IV, Victorious, HMS fearless etc), and once landed on have a speed of 0 relative to the deck but a speed of x relative to the water (where x is the speed of whatever carrier I have landed on). So what am I missing in my model to do this?

Hi,

Common in FS9 and in FSX.
You already pinpointed the problem: the relative speed.
As far as my experience goes you just put on the parking brakes and the aircraft will stay put (more or less).

That's kind of what I thought but it doesn't appear to make a difference.

For example bringing the sigma simulations harrier to the hover alongside the ship and matching speed at 17 knots, before transitioning over the deck and dropping down still matching the ship speed and applying the parking brake after touchdown I now remain "static" (0 knots Groundspeed) at the point in space I touched down whilst the ship continues on at 17 knots. Same if I don't apply the brake but throttle down. Also tried RVL at various approach speeds but no difference.

Using the same technique with the Flying stations Ark Royal not an issue. Aircraft static on the deck but moving at the same speed relative to the ground. Same with other carriers which have been developed. Tried different surface types for the platform, checked the attachpoints for runway_start and runway_end but can't see anything untoward.

Thanks anyway i'll try a couple of things.

:)

I've made those platforms for ships, and workded without problems but for these ships I only landed with helicopters, could be that this is what make the difference. with airplanes I couldn't say.

Hi Beernardo,

No, I do not think it makes a difference if you fly a heli or an aircraft.
I landed on Jagl04's R11 (that I changed into a 'moveable' carrier) many times with a heli and also with a Harrier and I always had to put on the parking brakes to keep staying on deck.

Hi again.
Now that I come to think of it: all models I have tried and/or converted were FS9 models. I do not know whether you made an FSX specific model.
That is perhaps where the problem might be?
Try making the fs9 mdl and afterwards change it into an fsx one?
