Hi all.
Many developers are finding the MSFS updates are causing problems such as loss of aerial addon imagery, loss of polygons, CTDs, etc... I have a Steam version, and have had some of these problems after updates. (I suspect some problems are caused by a Windows 10 update occurring after the Asobo update.) I have been able to overcome these problems.
1) Make a copy of your Official folder. It will take some time. Copy it to a hard-drive location. It's just a backup copy.
2) With Steam, you can now verify the MSFS install. This will erase your Official folder. With the Microsoft install, I believe you can repair the install ( I don't know if this will erase the Official folder).
3) Starting the sim, it will direct you to download the huge (93GB?) data. Don't do this. Exit the sim.
4) Copy the backup Official to the appropriate location. It takes me about 30 minutes to do so. Microsoft installers might need to delete the current Official folder and then copy the backup Official to the right location.
5) Restart the sim, and now you should have the ability to download the update, about 8GB in my last case. Much better than 93GB.
6) Test your developments. If the polys, aerials, airports all behave as expected, then the problem is cured... so exit the sim, and delete your copy of the Official folder, and then copy the new Official folder (with the updates). Done.
This has worked for me and and a few others.
