• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Name (GUID)

Hello All,

in FSX Planner for a Custom Scenery Object, it has an entry area called "Name (GUID)" I seem to have to enter the Correct names for this. I typed in "building" and it said it wouldn't recognise that.

What can i put in and what comes up if i put in something particular.

Thanks
Soaring

The GUID is an alpha-numeric character string. Each object has sone. For example, looking at the Global Library Objects page of the SDK you see entries like the following:

air_beaconlightheli {c01195dc-0a04-402b-aefc-63131ea0ab5c}

On the left is the name of the object. On the right is the GUID.

Thanks Russel,

But how do i know which one to use. IS there a list of codes that i can use for that entry??

Hello All,

Problem again.

NO matter how i enter the text in the name(guid) area, it keeps coming up with an error when i compile. I just copy and paste the name, the code, the whole thing or whatever i tired to the 'custom scenery object' Name(GUID)field but its always an error.

What is the correct procedure to insert one of those things in the scenery???

Thanks

I think you need the GUID but it also needs {} around it. so for example it needs to look like this:

Code:
{08b7aa8c-14d4-49bd-8e00-9efd723c2d55}

Sorry jon,

Still no luck. I think the { and }'s are automatically put in around it because the brackets are already there in the error message.

Any further idea's anyone pllleeaassee

Can you send me the xml file that FSX Planner is creating so that I can take a look at it. jon AT FSDeveloper.com

email sent.

Just to let you know, it compiles the files properly without the "custom scenery Object" in there. As soon as i add it, the errors come popping in.

I have the email. At the moment the name field contains the object name and not the GUID - that won't work but I understand that you are having problems with the guid also - can you email or post the GUID here please?

THe saved XML is with the name but i tried the GUID code as well.

I tried few, but this is one of what i tried
gen_nucplant01
{DDA775E2-5E3E-435E-
9A11-F5A8ECF75D37}
size: 439.13, 180.38, 348.23

I have emailed you a fixed and working file that compiles

Thanks Jon,

Didn't get your email by the way. Also trying out ADE as some people have said. That also seems to work pretty good

Dunno what happened to the email then. However, here is a fixed version of the XML. The object may not be quite the one you planned.

Guid

Hi Jon,

I have been reading your replies to what "Soaring" asked about.
I too have had the same problem. I went to that website you recommended and downloaded some objects that seemed to fit my needs, however when I went to compile I kept getting all kinds of problems.

I found that I had left the "{}" off the GUID when I copied it over from the website, so the system entered them in , but just to a couple of them. Then I found that when I copied them , somehow a space was entered into the GUID title, always in the same place. I fixed that but it kept on coming back as if I had never corrected it at all. I found eventually that the only way around this was to save the XML file after "EVERY" correction, this worked.

Then I found that when I copied it over on some GUID names I copied the space AFTER the GUID name as well, this caused some problems, more fixing, more independant saves.

However I still could not get all of the GUID's to compile correctly so I simply deleted them and the compile went through without a hitch.

I will look around for some more buildings that look like our local airport ones.
If you know of any other sites please let me know. donofbunbury@yahoo.com.au).

It would be good if the FSX Planner help files were a bit more informative though. maybe they will fix this as time goes by.

Thanks Jon for being there for Newbies (at FSX Scenery design) like myself.

Thanks for all this information. We'll have to check the code that parses the GUID to see why the above is happening. (We want it to work the same for all GUIDs and trim off leading or trailing spaces.)
