• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Reading the SDK, trying the tutorial (menues do not open that should per SDK) and searching the web but to no avail. I would like to start a new project but I'm at a loss as to what needs to be done. Thanks to @Lagaffe I've been able to port over some of my aircraft but cant repair any with problems without being able to create a (Project). Can anyone help me get started on this. I've come to the realization that we are all newbies with MSFS 2020.

@richard-DHI, you should know Paul has built a number of aircraft already for FS so your concerns are unwarranted. Obviously he wants to get his own models into MSFS.

Paul, thank for your post.

At the moment I have a few projects in progress, they are well advanced in terms of modeling, mapping and textures and I have not yet started to animate the various pieces.
These planes have been started on Gmax or 3DS but I am in the process of porting everything via FBX or OBJ files to Blender as I prefer to go for the most durable solution which from a financial point of view is the best for me.
These planes have been compiled for FSX and Prepar3D. I checked how they behaved under MSFS by doing a quick port and it's pretty good overall. As all my instruments are in 3D, it was not too much of a problem. For 2D gauges such as radios, either I plan to port them to 3D or study the new html gauges to see what can be done.
I think that once the model has been put into Blender I will apply a grey texture as simple as possible and export a simple LOD to MSFS. I have never understood why we continue to make several LODs in 2020 knowing that the PCs used have nothing comparable with those of 2004 where the LODs were justified. However, be careful when choosing the LOD because the MSFS engine uses them in a precise order, and I need to go into this in more detail.
Once this LOD has been chosen and exported correctly, I will start the animations.

My first creative tests on MSFS were based on the example provided in the SDK, which I simply compiled and tested in the simulator. I would be honoured to give you some information but if you could specify what problem you are working on.

I noticed his join date and contributions to the community. He asked a question, I posted some helpful links. I do not see the problem in doing so.

@richard-DHI, thanks for the links, some interesting information to work with.

@Lagaffe, I like what you have done so far. You seem to have a much better understanding of MSFS 2020. Any pointers you can give me along the way would be greatly appreciated.

@hairyspin, isn’t time to check with Norbert?

To begin with, following the SDK/Samples/SimpleAircraft step by step I can not open the Edit Package menu window. Nothing happens when I click on (mycompany-simple-aircraft).

I have a model in 3ds Max animated and textured. Using the Babylon File Exporter I generated a .gltf of the model. I started a new project within MSFS 2020 [DevMode], filled in the Default company name. Added a SimObject subset package but that’s as far as I can go, still unable to open the Edit Package menu.

I need to overcome this hurdle and hopefully that will get me rolling.

Would LOVE to get our FSX aircraft ported to FS2020 too...... for one, there are no FLOAT PLANES !!!! Yikes !!!!! But had a look at the SDK and as Paul mentioned, some functions appear to be duds !?
Of course, there is no documentation with it (?).

There is one anphib in the basic version of MSFS 2020, which I have, and now I have my Bad Duck ported over. The Duck works well except for a few bad click spots for gauges. I want to correct this but need to overcome the OP problem.

Hope it goes well, Paul. I havent done one of mine yet! arghh...

Is it difficult porting a plane? Is there a very basic, well written work flow that doesnt need a new EXE compiled?

Bill @lionheart,

There is a neat little program that works quite well. You will need Visual Studio to compile it as explained in Lagaffe's post. Well worth the effort.

I'm starting to understand the file structure for aircraft. There are multiple CFG files I'm digging into. I'm looking at what I call the aircraft baseball cards when selecting one because that's what they remind me of. On my port over card it only shows cruise speed but not max altitude or endurance. I'm trying to figure out where that information is drawn from.
I'll keep posting what I learn and hopefully others who have had successful discoveries will contribute.

PS, this new sim has completely spoiled me, I don't want to go back to FSX or P3D. Now I'm working on my Defiant to go directly into MSFS 2020.

Paul,

I found this one through Arya. Looks impressive. Just generation version based off of Klas's converter.

Download site. You can sign up and only do the 'free' version, which I did. One of those sites that makes you wait if you do not pay to be a member. Still get the file.

Basic video on it here;

You have to fill out a bunch of configs and it does all the rest. Click, click, click and it runs, and Voila. I havent tried it yet. This is per the video I saw on it.
