• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX New function Object center point

Hi Arno!

When we are working on bigger projects we use to include as many object to one gmax file as possible. In gmax the background is also loaded to help the placement of the object. So normally for all objects we use the same center point (background and objects). In this case there could be some kilometer distances between the center point and the object itself. Unfortunately this is not good when we want to use LOD's. For LOD's the center point has to be as close to the object center point as possible. So at the end of the process in gmax the object is placed to the center, than in FS the mdl is placed again, but than we have to use the curvation.

Is it possible to add a function to move the center point in MCX?
It could work like this.
You load the object. Than you can set to offset the center point by x,y in meters. Than the original coordinates can be typed in and the new coordintes are displayed, with this new coordinates the curvation can be done.

This would really make our live easier!

What do you think?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi,

Internally that logic is in the tool already, I use it in the ground polygon wizard. I'll see if I can make it available somehow.

Now you can only center the object in the move tool, but that does not affect the placement information.

That's a very good point. I have that problem too.

I use some part of the satellite photo that is obvious such as a corner of the building near the center of the object and use the coordinate in google earth. Then I move the whole thing to be at the center of the object.

Very tedious to do.

Hi

Until Arno includes the center point offset to MCX, I want to share you my current solution, which is a little bit more complex but still does the trick.

The attached xls is able to calculate the offset coordinates if you enter the original coordinates and the offset by X and Y.

It only works if your project Y axis is headed to 360 heading.

In my project file the ground is placed with 360 heading. If I move the object near to the center point I write down the x,y offset. If I move the X by -500 meters than in excel I write to X +500. Same at Y coordinate. The new lat/lon position is calculated by the excel.

+1 on that suggsestion ;)

It's on the todo list, but will be for after my vacation.

Hi Arno

I had no time to check this. Is this function available already?

Thanks a lot!

Not yet, I'll bump it on the todo list.

Hi,

I have added this function as well now. Let me know if it works as expected.

Hi Arno,

I would test the function, I've downloaded the latest development but I can not find it.

I've found the development version. I can not find the new feature.

Sorry I was not writing correctly.

Hi,

Ah. It is integrated in the move tool. So if you have a placement defined the normal move function will also update the coordinates of the placement.

Hi Arno,

Could you please double check the new coordinate calculation? I have a hunch that the offset is calculated with a flipped +/- .

The object does not stay at the original place.

Other question. Somehow at object placement I do not see any map. An error comes up:

Exception: Could not load file or assembly 'System.dalataa.SQLite, Version.........

Thanks for all your help!

One more thing. In the MOVE tool x,y,z I can not write bigger number than 1000. Can you please enlarge the limit? Thanks!

Can you try a clean install? This happens when some old DLL files are still present with a more recent version.

Yes, will do that. Should be easy to change.

Hi,

You were right, the placement was updated in the wrong direction. I have fixed that now. The maximum value has also been increased now.

Something was wrong with the build server so the development release was not made in the last days. But tonight the fix should be included in the new build.

Send from my phone using Tapatalk, so excuse the short sentences and possible typos
