• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

thank you very much, and yes I'm talking about fs9.

You might also want to take a look at the FAQ in the AvSim scenery design forum, it gives a good overview of all aspects of scenery design.

alright im trying to model a simple house in g max i got it all done i think textures on and thats it right? i try to save like a tutorial says but i cant save as a .bgl what am i doing wrong?

ya what i ment was that i can only save as a .gmax or export as a .p3d what am I doing wrong?

Now you're crossing over into unknown territory for me. I use FSDS and don't know squat about gmax. The gmax gurus will have to answer that one :)

alright thanks ill have to look into that to if its not to expensive

Hi!

You need to install fs2004 gmax Gamepack SDK
first then you can export to a Flightsim
Scenery Object (.mdl) file and then to a
(.bgl) file using the fs2004 BGL Comp SDK
and the (.xml) file that gmax Gamepack generates.

But you must first remove the comment markers
in that (.xml) file before you run it in bglcomp.exe
and you must also decide where in fs2004 world
you want to place your object. So you must also
change the latitude and longitude coordinates
in that (.xml) file. When you have done this you
just drag the (.xml) file to bglcomp.exe and drop
to create a (.bgl) file for fs2004.

You can download the both Software Development Kits
at: http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulator/fs2004_downloads_sdk.asp

Just be aware that if you create a BGL which has location data (lat/lon) associated with the object then that object will become geo-locked in that position. As an alternative you can use a tool such as Library Creator XML to create a scenery object Library from your mdl objects, They can then be placed using one of the different FS9 object placement tools.
