• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Nightmap textures causes MDL display problems

Hi Arno,
First thanks for your incredible work !
I'm currently designing my local airport and for that I use Sketchup 7 and 8 for the 3D modelling of buildings. MCX works like a charm converting my DAE files, but I'm now adding nightmap textures to my buildings. What is happening is the following:
- export the DAE from SU and import to MCX, mass material editing, etc, everything's fine.
- adding a nightmap texture in the Material Editor causes some faces to disappear (at day and at night), as if they are reversed or erased.

I've tried that with an exported DAE and imported MDL file, same problem.
No matter if the nightmap texture exists or not in the texture folder of the scenery.
I'm puzzled..., or am I missing something ?

Hi,

Do these faces already disappear in ModelConverterX or is that something you see in FSX itself? The way you added it in the material editor seems fine.

Woaw, what a quick answer !

The faces are OK in MCX, they disappear only in FSX. What is strange is that not all faces disappear. I've double-checked that they are correctly oriented in SketchUp and MCX :o
If I remove the nightmap texture from the material settings, everything is back to normal (except I have no nightmap of course !)

Have you coloured part in your building I meant that if there is part with costume textures and other simply colored with the paint bucket, I had the same problem but not knew exactly what was the problem

No, I never use colors because they add drawcalls and their effect can be achieved with a single pixel of an already used texture of the desired color.
But my first experiments with building modelling in which there were colors never add the problems you mentionned.
This looks like numeric sorcery

All right, this no will help sure, but I think this happened to me when I tried remove some night textures from model, well I'm totally lost in night textures and is an issue I must solve, sorry for not be of help but before I must help myshelf :o

This sounds like what I was noticing, which I assumed to be due to the AdditiveNightOnly mode not being read correctly.

I have now updated to the latest Development Release, which loads the mode parameters correctly ... but I still have odd beige trees at night.

To be honest, I converted the models to .3ds and put them through Max, which has fixed the problem (and the rest of the project is in Max anyway)

As far as I can tell, this is a new problem (some time in the last few months)

Hi,

That's a good suggestion to try the last build. If they are still weird issues, please send me the MDL and textures and I will debug it.

I'm using the latest build and will continue searching for a solution. I'll send the mdl and textures if I cannot find one.
Thanks all for your answers.
