• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

No Water Reflections?

This may be common knowledge, but it's something I wouldn't have paid much attention to except for my latest project. I decided to do a Float Plane Base (this is in BC..."Whistler Air Waterdrome"). The model has no reflection. . .so is that normal, or is there something in the modeling that needs to be corrected? These are WIP Shots.

But you mean the model?, usually here the problem is the oposite. too much reflection, take a look to the specular color ( darker= less reflection) or if the "no base material specular" is ticked in the material editor
Edit: sorry I didn't read totally the title , then I would ask with type of wáter you applied to the tag.

Hi Ed:

Would you please clarify whether you were referring to the 3D model image not being reflected on the surface of nearby water ? ;)

Alternatively, are you wanting some sun or sky light 'reflection' off of:

* "wall" surfaces of the 3D model

and/or:

* "window" surfaces of the 3D model

...when it is viewed at a particular angle relative to the FS 3D world illumination source (but not necessarily when viewed as a reflected image on the surface of the water) ?

Although I see from your thread on this project over at SOH that you have changed your design intended for public release, it would IMHO be appropriate to followup with this thread, at least to clarify your original query here. :scratchch

PS: Both designs look great BTW ! :)

I think the water effects setting needs to be set to Max 2.x in order to reflect objects. High 2.x reflects terrain, Med 2.x reflects the sky, and Low 2.x only reflects the user aircraft. If I recall correctly, anyways.

You are 100% correct, I had my water settings one step below max and moving the slider that one notch to max gave me the reflection of the Dock in the water. Thanks!!
