• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hello to all,

I am completely new to FSX and I am a simulation nut for airplanes.

As I've been messing around with the various aircraft I thought to myself "I really enjoy just feeling the immersive environment. If wish I could customize my aircraft so I could move around the cabin, like the Baron 58."

Since then, I've embarked on a rather frustrating quest of getting the SDK software I need. I am unable to locate 3ds max 7+ I need to model in the installation disks and I'm not willing to pay the high price for a commercial copy. I don't understand why MS would promote so much Developing features without the proper software.

Anyway, I've installed FSX SDK2 and am eagerly trying to start modeling some spacious cabins for the Lear 45 and CRJ700.

I welcome any advice or help in getting started - how I can find 3ds max would be great.

I'm no stranger to programming in C++, 2 years of college in Applied Computer Science and Technology. It was a while ago though and I haven't done any programming since.

Regards to all
My name isn't important.

It works. There is a FSX gamepack Microsoft has delivered with the SDK. So anything there you need to start if you can cope with GMax, which I still can't do ;)

3DSMax is on version 2008 now, and available at:

Clearly, you are expecting help pirating it, which is amazing. But, why would someone willing to pirate such expensive software care about rules about posting about pirating?

You can get started by going to the above site and purchasing legitimate software, or getting GMax which is free, and stop asking publically for people to help you steal. =)

Gee I wonder why no one would give you a prgramming job which requires trust..... perhaps you should have majored in philosophy.... no politics!

My name isn't important.
Especially when you announce to the world your intentions to commit a crime. =)

Not sure what they taught you in college, but you should get a refund.

Maybe Father Bill will hear your confession. =)

Calm down Patrick :-> I don't think the original poster was asking anyone to pirate the software for him, just complaining about the cost of the full blown 3DS Max (which I believe we can all understand :-> ) and the fact that 3DS has since released a newer version of Max which the gamepak doesn't work with. We definitely need a better solution before the next version of the SDK comes out (for whichever is the next released ACES product).

As to this:

That's a tag line from the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy where the OP has taken his alias (Slartibartfast) from.

Just trying to help keep the peace :->

Ok, I'll try <deep breath>

But it might be another 47 lifetimes till I'm calm enough to be an MVP. :D

It takes someone more like Bill, who I'd recommend, but I gave up trying to figure out how. But, my endorsment might do more harm than good anyway, so he lucked out, haha.

Patrick

Patrick, go get a copy of the Hitchhiker's Guide if you don't know it. It will prepare you for everything life has to offer ;)

Thar's life other than NASCAR and Jack Daniels? Durn, the things we lurn ev'ry day!

The latest SDK SP2 includes tools for 3DSMax7-8-9, and in fact, although gmax is still supported, the MAX tools are better. I think that ACES has basically done the last SDK tools update for gmax, unless Autodesk updates gmax (unlikely (my speculation), since their hoped for gmax-dev didn't sell too well).

Admittedly, the MAX programs are too expensive for the hobbyist, but there are other free (Blender?) and low cost alternatives on the horizon.

What the hell is your problem....!!!!!
If I was clearly trying to pirate the software, do you think I would advertise it on the web?

Instead of jumping to conclusions about my intentions, maybe you could have considered that I worded the post poorly. For all I knew there was a freeware version I could have used.

The reason I never had a programming job was, if you demand to know with your slanderous pretention, I had a motorcycle accident on the way to write my last final on DBase systems and that ended my pursuit in programming.

As for "my name is not important" - it is a reference to Slartibartfast's comment made to Arthur Dent in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

If your immediate conclusion is that I have criminal intentions, perhaps it is you that expect it from people because you do it yourself. I am the most honest person I know, and a person who values such honesty doesn't normally consider they may be regarded as dishonest regardless of how they misrepresent their intentions by poor wording.

And Father Bill is hiding in your god damn closet!

Thanks for the warm welcome, maybe I'll go find another community to join.

You just finished raking Patrick over the coals for "jumping to conclusions," then you have the unmitigated gall to cast aspersions at me, whom you do not know at all?

BTW, GMax is not only free, but it is on your FSX Deluxe DVD#1, waiting for you to install...

Your right. I have no idea who you are or were when Waugh suggested I give you a confession who called you Father Bill.

Guys

This is just a friendly moderatorial reminder to please keep the discussions on topic and to avoid the personal comments.

We pride ourselves on being a flme free community and I am sure you all agree with that :)

That would be a bad move...

Even if this sounds as reliable as the memory flashs of Mr. Prosser, this is the nicest place you will find when it comes to Flightsim communities.

You just happened to had a bad start - so just re-start. Believe me, I know, because I am a particularly clever hyperintelligent pan-dimensional being :)

Absolutely. I am sorry for making a mess of my first post. But I do take a great deal of pride in my integrity and get all pissy when its attacked.

My apologies to Father Bill and Waugh.

Didn't you win an award for doing the crinkly bits in Norway?

Wouldn't it be poetic irony to get FSX_KML and draw some detailed Fjordds?

Anyway, back to 3DS Max, there are student licenses available, do you qualify?

8^)

Actually, I was thinking of modeling some pilots to look like a couple of hyper-intelligent pan-dimensional beings.

I've explored my SFX Delux dvds, and theres no Gmax. The documents say it's no longer loaded. There is ACE however, but not alot of documentation I've found yet on it's use.

And no, I'm not a student anymore. I still have my Student ID though.

GMax is in the FSX SDK. This is a separate install from FSX itself. If you have not installed the SDK yet then you will find a folder for it on the Deluxe DVD. After installation there should be an SDK folder alongside the FSX folder (assuming you have used a standard install). In there are two folders and one contains GMax.

You will want to update the SDK to SP1a or SP2. you can find the updates on www.fsinsider.com in the downloads section. You mst have the deluxe version of the SDK installed before you can apply a service pack.

Just to clarify,

Gmax is NOT contained on DVD #1 of the Deluxe version of FSX.
Maybe Jon and Bill have a pre RTM version of FSX (were you guys beta testers?)which contained it but it is not on the version you buy off the shelf. Or maybe they are confusing that with the Gamepack for Gmax.

It even states in the "Modeling Tools" section that Gmax is no longer supplied as part of the SDK. You need to download it from Turbosquid.com (or download the 2004 SDK which does include the same version GMax and can be found in the download section of this site).

-Michael.
