• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi everyone,

I'm a new user to both the forum as well as the FSDS program. I have managed to get the preferences section of the program set up, after much frustration, so the scenery can be converted to a .bgl file. However, it never makes it to the location that I have specified in FSX. I have tried the following inputs and only one of them has worked.

1. Keep the coordinates as defaults and go to that location [FAIL]
2. Change the default coordinates [FAIL]
3. Save the game at a specific coordinate and load the coordinates from the saved game file [SUCCESS!]

I know the default location is KSEA but nothing shows up there. I have tried to place the water tower that the help file has you make to get you started. I've also tried placing a plain 10 x 10 x 10 cube and that doesn't show up. It's only once I save the game at a specific location will it work properly. Does anyone have any insight into how to fix this issue? This is a fascinating part of FSX that I have just begun getting into.

Is the folder that I place my .bgl files wrong (addon scenery folder)?
Is there a setting I need to enable / disable?
Or is there a patch/ update that needs to be installed for this feature to work properly?

Thanks for any and all help!

The bgl file should go into Addon Scenery\scenery and any related textures into Addon Scenery\texture. Make sure that you have the image complexity in FSX set to at least the same as the object - so if you create an object with NORMAL as the image complexity (the default I would expect) then also make sure that you have set at least that in your scenery settings in FS.

Also make sure that FS is not running when you add or change that bgl file.

Check also your coordinates. Negative value for longitude position west of Zulu.

Thanks! The objects just started showing up in FSX. I had everything setup correctly, I guess I just needed to restart my computer. Also, what do you mean by image complexity and FSX set to at least the same? How do I know the complexity of an image and what it corresponds to in FSX?

Well whatever program you use to place the object should have a property to set image complexity. This is a level at which objects are shown or not shown in FS. If you have an object with an image complexity of NORMAL, but set the overall display value (image complexity in Scenery Settings in FS) to say SPARSE, then your object will not appear. Change FS to NROMAL or higher and it will show. This is designed to help people with lower spec machines by not displaying all the objects.

Image complexity runs from VERY_SPARSE to EXTREMELY_DENSE
