• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Two airports with in 20 miles or less. No faults found. both I added water ryws. good parking and connected, hold shorts not visible. my pby shows up at the right time, disappears after a few seconds. any ideas?

Hello -

My guess, nothing more to go on such as the ADE ad4 file, I would think its the aircraft itself.

At this point, I think I agree with you, doug. I have the Black Hawk trying to go from kast to tpt2. It times out. I have a larger plane (forgot what it is right now) Going from kast to 7w1. I need to check if it si timing out, a nice bi plane by Clawson? Goes from ksa3 to default lax, It starts up... push back and sits there forever. Traffic Tools says pretaxi out. Default Cessna from 7w1 to kast... works great. ... and vs. pby from tpt2 in water, shows up but disappears in a few seconds. pby from kast to tpt2 taxi, takeoff, somewhere in the middle disappears. kast and tpt2 - few miles apart. I made water rwys at each. kast is a few miles across the Columbia River from 7w1... Ilwaco. Bob

AFAIK, you cannot use a water runway for AI, it must be a land type (I use concrete). And the aircraft must have "landing gear" lines in the Contact Points.

Ah ha! ai cannot take off in the water! So, using a pby it can take off and land but only on land and with wheels. Thanks for the learning! Bob

I can confirm Tom's facts.
I have used very narrow 'solid' runways placed down the centre of the 'water' runway and have converted some 'float' planes so that the computer thinks that they have wheels. This can work well for the AI aircraft.
One problem that can occur is when you try to taxi your own float-plane across the solid runway you can sometimes get 'beached' on this 'phantom' runway.

Ray, Bet you knew I would ask this..... How do I 'sink' my 'water-=concrete' twy down a bit? It is locked to airport EL. Bob

You don't. Create a copy of the PBY folder, change the titles (I add AI to the title) and change the variation names, and change (raise) the landing gear contact points so the plane sits on the water properly. If it's an amphibian the wheels will still be down, nothing you can do about that. For pure flying boats this is not a problem. You may have to also raise the scrape points to allow it to "taxi".

Finally, change the Effects section to that of an existing AI flying boat, if you have one. We use these, but I forgot where I got the effects from:

[effects]
wake = fx_wake
water=fx_AI_floatplane_spray-and-wake
dirt=fx_AI_floatplane_spray-and-wake
concrete=fx_AI_floatplane_spray-and-wake
touchdown = fx_tchdwn, 1

John Young made an AI Shin Maywa US-1/US-2 which works well in his MAIW scenery of RJOI. Might be worth checking out those models to see how he did it.

I also experienced this problem many years ago when using FSX. It was with a floatplane and I noticed that seconds after it touched down (on the water) it would disappear instead of slowing then turning off the (water) runway onto a (water) taxipath.

I fixed it by modifying some of the parameters in the aircraft.cfg such as the COG and also (if I remember correctly some of the parameters for the actual floats (contact points) and maybe even the aircraft speed and/or flaps. I eventually got it to touchdown and not disappear.

And maybe also what Tom mentions about requiring a concrete runway but can't remember how this is done so that it doesn't display - maybe there is a parameter to not display the runway.

I am just about to try and get some AI floatplanes to fly flightplans in MSFS (did it for FSX) and also remember that 'drive through parking' makes it also work better (ie taxipath TO the parking dock and a separate taxipath FROM the parking dock). Unfortunately the documentation was on the stuff4fs web site which now doesn't exist since Don Grovestine passed a year ago BUT I have attached it with this post. It relates to FSX but the principal still exists. I think that PR3d works very similar (maybe the same) to FSX.

ALSO look at this document https://www.tradewind.org/NG/island_breezes/Feb07_IslandBreezes.pdf which contains information on how to create taxiways (page 20) and also mentions concrete runways in the water as Tom also mentioned.
