• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Polygons missing after Ground Polygon Wizard processing

Hi Arno,

I have the following problem:

I have created an apron in GMAX which I saved as MDL file from GMAX FSX SDK.

Now I load it into ModelConverterX and see all the polygons intact.

When I load this MDL into Ground Poly Wizard, I enter all the necessary coordinates as well as polygon altitude and click on "Lower all polys"

Then I go on to convert the file and it prompts me with the message that not all polygons in my model are on the ground level (even though I had previously pressed the "Lower..." button) and asks me if I want to proceed.

As I proceed I see the following picture in my ModelConverterX main screen and, if load FSX, similar missing polygons in the airport.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,

You might have found a bug. Can you send me the MDL file so that I can do some testing here?

Thanks, I will take a look at it.

Hi,

I know what is going one. The lower polygon feature only lowers flat polygons onto the ground. But those polygons that go wrong are not completely flat, they have some vertices at elevation 0 and some others as 0.001. That's why the lower polygons function does not fix it.

I think I need to add a little more tolerance to this function. Let me see how to implement that.

Hi,

I have made some changes to the ground polygon wizard now. With the default settings your polygons work fine now and I also hope it makes the wizard a bit easier to use. I have described the changes on my blog. They will be available in the development release tomorrow.

Please see the sticky thread at the top of this forum about MCX downloads.

Hope this helps,
