• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Possible Issue?

Hi, i am just getting back to ADE from version 1.30, currently i have hit a bump in the road:
I am trying to add province information to some airports, so according to the online manual i followed the instructions in "How do I change the Airport Location Properties?", however it did not worked as intended (the dialogue i got was slightly different, and the airport properties where not unlocked), then i realized that maybe that was for a prior version, so i went to the release notes and found the one indicating the new way of changing the airport information, read the explanation and proceeded to replicate it... and it did not work as intended either :S .
Airport properties were not unlocked neither it was indicating me to make any kind of special "pre load" file, it just wanted to make a whole new AFX with all the usual information and content.
What am i doing wrong?.
Thanks guys!.

Yes, exactly that.
Back when i used to be active, i was just changing the properties directly in the properties menu, and everything worked just fine, why has it changed now?.

Well I am not sure what you were doing in the past but you can't just change the properties - that has never worked for stock airports but it would work for user created airports that do not exist in FS. The only way to change the airport information for a stock airport is to add the changes into a pre-load Bgl file. That is a file that is loaded before the stock airport. The method given in the article I reference in my previous post does work. It creates the pre-load Bgl file and saves it to Scenery\World\scenery. If it is not working for you then check that the pre-load file is being created (it has ALT in the name). If it does not appear in Scenery\World\scenery then do you have FS installed in the default folder - Program Files (x86)?

ADE wants to save it on addon scenery/scenery, and it is named like a regular AFX.
As for the rest, i already read that article (is the one i mentioned), and i am aware of what a preload file does, but i just can not create a preload file apparently, is there any tool that would let me create just the small airport properties code and compile it separately?.

Well we need to find out why it is not working for you since it certainly does work for other folk. Yes ADE wants to save to Addon Scenery\Scenery for the main airport Bgl file but it will also compile the pre-load file for you.

Well had write the XML and then compile it - but ADE is easier...............

zip the project file and email it to jon AT scruffyduck DOT co DOT uk

How can i know if it wants to compile it?, it does not indicate me that.
My fs is FSX:SE, installed in the default location that steam assigns it: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\FSX"
Option are compile to projects folder, save xml in projects folder, projects folder is "C:\Program Files (x86)\FS Design Tools\Airport Design Editor\FSX\Projects"

Hey i just noticed, it IS creating an "_ALT" file, in XML form and it is ALSO placing them into scenery/world/scenery, but it has not told me that it was doing it, also, it has done it just now, after i checked the options manually (i had not checked them before, i just had ADE to read the option of my old 1.30 install).
Maybe that was the difference? (manually checking the options).

OK - you have FS installed in a User Access Controlled (UAC) folder - this can stop you adding or changing files in that folder. Try running ADE 'As Adminisrator'

I think you have the ProKey in that case you can see what ADE is going to compile in the Extended Compile Options. These are covered in the article on Compiler Settings. This screenshot shows the extended options for a project with modified airport properties that need a pre-load Bgl file. You can see that the option to generate it is checked:

Yes, its called ADE vers 1.65.

Open the stock airport.
Using the Tool Change Airport Reference Data make your name changes
Note Below: DO NOT make altitude changes
Select Compile and then select More Options
As per the picture uncheck Compile Airport and Scenery
The small airport property code that you want is now in your Scenery\World\scenery folder

If you make a airport altitude change then you MUST compile the airport and scenery so it will match the new altitude. You must also make altitude changes to all starts, runways, navaids, etc. ADE will do this for you.

Well 1.65 is hugely different than 1.30. That is such an old version that I cannot remember what it does.

Good job we both said the same thing Jim ;)

I have UAC disabled on my W7ProX64 (looooong time PC user from the times of DOS and W3.1).
I will change my configuration to point to more specific folders like you showed me.

I guess you will need to understand how this works to write the Spanish Manual ;)
