• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

"Next Gen Flightsim" should do a Kickstarter for a project. With a few hundred thousand dollars in the bank and the amount of hype and blah-blah already present, it could just turn out to be flightsimming's very own Star Citizen!
Do I detect a slight hint of sarcasm in that statement?

Speaking of blah-blah....LOL

A few facts:

1. Unigine doesn't have a spherical (round) world. It has a small regional 'world'... like most first-person-shooter games. In short, you can't just fly from Los Angeles to Denver because it's world size doesn't support it. There is talk of there being a round world in the near future, but until that exists... it will never replace any current flight sim.
2. Because there is no global environment, it is still undetermined what the actual performance impact will be if the Unigine can actually deliver all of that detail on a global scale.

So... there is no -next-gen-flightsim- at this time and I don't see one arriving in the foreseeable future.

I have a suggestion for this thread. Would it be possible for us to create a more accurate(interesting) and community driven 'What's New for P3D v3". It appears that the list on LM's site isn't comprehensive/great for people (especially devs) to see the improvements in P3D. I understand that there are some stuff that might have been fixed/new/changed/improved that isn't in the official list or not many people have realised. I think this would be useful for everyone to take note of new features that can improve development for v3 or any future versions.

For example, I don't build aircrafts but I read somewhere that "Change low speed thrust limit on propeller in order to better blend the low and high speed thrust calculations" would help improve flight dynamics where current prop aircraft need a much higher thrust setting for breakaway power. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

There's another one where 'SimConnect_WeatherRequestCloudState' is now fixed. Thats suppose to help with people building weather radar. Once again I've yet to use these features as I'm just starting out but it might be of interest to others.

Just a heads up regarding the information that I'm reading regarding the Next Generation Flight Simulator... ahhhh.... get the facts boys... the facts. Shooting from the hip using rumors or opinions based upon anything less than facts is not really productive.

If you'd like to learn those facts you can actually join our forum or shoot me a pm... I'd be happy to fill you in.

By the way... some of your comments can be answered by reading the interview on Flightsim.com... might be helpful.

Mr. Borick,

As a developer who has interacted with the company that is creating the Unigine graphics system, I can state my post is nothing but facts. I do understand that there will be a round-earth model in the future, but that's not here yet. I know, I have the Unigine SDK on my system and am very well aware of it's limitations.

Here are some facts direct from Unigine :

I want a new 64bit, DX12, whole world flight sim as a successor to anything we have now, what's wrong with this desire? nothing at all. Not here to argue, but to encourage this natural advancement to bigger and better. LM P3D v3 is an excellent sim in the mean time, and all the add-ons I have make it even better. We all know it can be better these days. Lets not argue about whether NGFS is going to come out sooner or later, lets cheer them on, and if they fail it has not harmed anybody to encourage them, but if they succeed we all win in some form or another.

I can understand if developers resist this because it will mean learning a new platform to develop for, but with this position we as a community remain technologically irrelevant when we should be way ahead of all software genres in innovation and technology....this is what aviation is about, right?

Aaaahhhh... but you don't have "all" the facts... things I certainly can't discuss here (NDA and all that) and to emphatically declare that "there is no -next-gen-flightsim- at this time and I don't see one arriving in the foreseeable future." Based upon what you think you know is a bit unfair to those who are more interested in the full facts and are patient enough, and understanding enough to realize that not all is revealed to everyone.

Oh... by the way... as a developer who has worked with the UNIGINE SDK, would you be interested in joining the team that can provide you with all of those facts? Would much rather have you as a knowledgeable Allie than a half knowledgeable enemy. If yes, send me a PM and let's chat.

Stephen Borick

Stephen, we prefer verifiable facts. When you're no longer hampered by NDAs, please tell us more; until then the gorgeous screenshots are just pretty pictures. Nudge nudge wink wink.

Stephen: Or still simplystate if Unigine currently has a round earth model - a somple yes or no would do!

Mr. Borick,

My occupation is to develop training simulators that get certified and used to train new and recurring pilots. As such, I spend a great deal of time also going through new and emerging technologies and/or code to determine it's viability in the training world. I find Unigine an incredible new platform, but it's not quite ready for a full fledged replacement to something such as FSX, X-Plane or Prepar3D.

As for "full facts", I have stated full facts... and despite what you might think, I'm not here with the intent to besmirch your hopes and dreams for a new flight sim product. I'm just making certain everyone knows the actual facts and not just the hype.

Unigine currently utilizes a flat terrain model and has plans to implement a round-earth model in the near future. However, it's not out there yet and no one's developed scenery for the entire planet with it yet, nor tested it's performance at that scale, etc. We're not even talking about weather yet, let alone ATC, navigational data. The list goes on and on.

Guys this is getting personal and is way off topic so I think it is time to close it. If you wish to discuss the next sim then please go ahead in a new thread
