• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi all

I am having issues with my scenery even after searching, reading and doing tutorials..mainly with placing a custom object in P3d from sketchup and ADE.
Then I saw this: http://www.prepar3d.com/model_converter/

Does this mean that the conventional tools will not allow me to work in P3d, I know ADE works and I think I have Model Converter X set up properly, but could the fact im trying to go straight to P3d be a problem, I didnt think it would be because scenery is the same in both FSX and P3d.

Thanks

Lee

Hi,

With the tools you mention it should be possible to make scenery for Prepar3D. The other tool you mentioned is not required.

What kind of problems do you exactly have? Did you activate your scenery correctly in Prepar3D for example?

Hi Arno

The problem im having is that the custom object I made doesnt go show up in fsx after compiling the airport in ADE.

Do you mean activated in P3d like I am activating any other scenery? I have tried that, Ive put the model in a /scenery file and the textures in the /texture file..

Ive also compiled it straight into Addon Scenery/scenery

thanks again

Hi,

Did you import the mdl object into ADE? If you only did the placement there, you need to be sure that the library that contains the object is also in the scenery folder.

Hi Arno,

Can you clarify for me. I added the object to the ADE library. Where is the library I have to put in the scenery folder? Or do I have to make a new library with Library Maker?

Thanks a lot

Hi,

I don't know ADE well enough for those details. But either the mdl is included in the bgl made by ADE or else you are just calling the object from another library bgl. In that case that file needs to be in your scenery folder as well.

You have two options in ADE:

  • Using an object from a library
  • Using a model (mdl file) directly

In the first case you will have added information about the object to ADE via the Library Object Manager (LOM). Then placed it using Add > Library Object. If this is the case then, as Arno point out, you will need to ensure that the library bgl file containing the object is in an active scenery folder in FS. Adding a library to ADE does not add the actual library to FS. You will also need to add any textures associated with the library to the texture folder that is alongside the scenery folder. So in the simplest example you add the library Bgl file to Addon Scenery\scenery then you need to put any textures for that library in Addon Scenery\texture

In the second case you have a mdl file (model) rather than a Bgl file. The model is added via Lists > Models. You then place the model in ADE using Add > Model. This time you do not need to add the model to FS since ADE will do that. However you will still need to put any textures needed by the model into the texture folder. So for example if you compile the airport in ADE to Addon Scenery\scenery then you will need to put any textures in Addon Scenery\texture

Ok I didnt add the scenery library ill go read the manual and figure out how to do that and tell you guys how it goes
