• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Previewing Repaint work

Im kinda in a bind. Im starting to do repaints for FSX now and I use a very old version of FS repaint demo v2 to preview my work to make sure lines match up and what not. I now have run into a repaint that will not work with the version I have of FS Repaint. I can not get the latest demo because the site that it links to from Abacus is no longer up. (Im not even sure that demo would work anyways) In any case, Is there another program out there that I can view the model with the repaint applied so I can follow my work as I go with updating as I update the dds? I have run into MDLviewer but It will not work with this process and I would rather not have FSX open while I paint because the Paint kits I deal with become quite large and take a bit of resources on top of the other programs I use.

Anyone know of a program that can assist me in this process?

I really hope this all makes since. Im at work and I get interrupted a lot, so Some of this might not make complete sense.

Thanks

ModelConverterX might work, but I don't think it will live-update textures. At least you wouldn't have to load FSX up each time, though.

At least in FS9 there is no need to reload the sim. I would assume that FSX works the same way.

To reload textures:

1. Go to Options/Settings/Display/Hardware (different in FSX, but go to where you set the video card settings, I assume).

2. Change the Global Texture Quality slider by one notch up or down. (I always leave this on Massive so large textures are sharp, so don't forget to check this once you've finished painting).

3. Click OK.

Do this each time you want to check a texture. In FS9 this also works for scenery building textures, etc.

Hope this helps,

Oh, yeah, in FSX you can assign a keyboard command to reload aircraft or scenery.

You'll have to reimport the model file or switch to another livery first if you want to see your updated paint.

Good idea though...I'll file a request.
