• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I have been following the ground poly creation tutorial very closely and created a runway with base textures for a project I am doing. Using the latest makemdl, I try t5o export it, but again and again, I receive the message that makemdl couldn't be found, like the one attached.

Can someone help me?

Thank you very much.

if your makemdl is located in
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\FS2004 SDK\makemdl
or anywhere in Program Files, run gmax as admin. run makemdl as admin as well.

edit: nm, misunderstood the problem on first glance.
edit2: on 2nd look, try it. IT says makemdl was not found or it failed to convert the model. So try the run as admin.

Tried running as admin, no results. I have the FSX gamepack installed, no FS2004 SDK, and copied the necessary files for the FS2002 gamepack from my FS2002 Pro CD. The MakeMDL is both in my plugins folder in gmax and in my plugins folder in the FS2002 gamepack plugins folder. Any other ideas as to what the problem may be?

Thank you again,

Eduardo Rubini

Hi,

Instead of trying to get the fs2002 gamepack working, you might also just export as fsx mdl and then use the modelconverterx ground polygon wizard for your ground polygons. Might be a lot easier.

If you still want to solve the problem, did you start gmax with the correct shortcut for the fs2002 gamepack?

Hi Arno. I am not quite sure how to export it as an fsx mdl, when I tried it with the fsx gamepack (which apparently allows me to do that), it sad I had no GUI and no friendly name. What do you suggest?

Thank you for the help,

Eduardo Rubini

you have to assign a gui in the Fs Tools, with the Gmax gamepack, for this you have to set the path to the Fsx_gmaxGamepack plugins.
Makemdl belong to the Fs2004 SDK, you have to get this and set the path in MCX.

Make sure you don't have any spaces in the MDL file name, and make sure it starts with a letter (no number). No punctuation in it either except for the underline (_). Make sure that any of the folder names in the path have no punctuation in their names (like the period).

Hope this helps,

Ok, I have tried converting it with a gui and a friendly name, but it insists on failing, by giving me the attached messages. Also, how can I set the correct path for Make MDL? Since it says it couldn't be found, I reckon there must be some way to indicate a path to it, right? I'm sorry to insist so much on the matter, but as a novice developer this problems with exporting my models have proved to be quite a hindrance!

Thank you again for your help.

Eduardo

Sorry, forgot to attach the messages it gives me when I try to export it as MDL:

have you set as default punctuation, the "dot" instead of "coma", if not, Gmax can't work properly , this can be achived changing the native language of the computer.

Do you HAVE to have the FS2002 gamepak if you dont want to do this in MCX but the old school way?
MCX is great, but its good to know how to do these things without it.

Calculations are easy with a calculator, but take away electricity and you might have a problem if its not memorized.

Yes! It worked! Thank you so much for the help! I guess the Brazilian comma system isn't really recognized by gmax. Well thank you all for the help, and thank you Bernardo for the solution!

Yes, modelconverterx replicates the fs2002 style code, but when using only gmax you need the fs2002 gamepack. But why make it harder when there is a tool? You are also making your model in gmax, while you can also create the hex code of the mdl directly.

Send from my phone using Tapatalk, so excuse the short sentences and possible typos
