• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Problem with the CAT Tool

No, cat is not a tool to animate an object but to assign conditions when the animation should show and when not - that's an important difference.

You should have made an animation in GMax that is looped. When you export it and place it in your scenery it plays endlessly as a loop. This isn't intended, of course, but it shows that the animation is OK.

Now you run cat and tell the animation that it should only play when NAV1 is set to 112.00. When the frequency is set back to another freq the reverse animation is played.
That's "all" cat does. ;)

Hi

If you have used the tick18_ name on your animated parts, you can export it from Gmax and compile without using CAT, this way you will see if the animation works, you wont be able to control it, FS will loop the animation over and over, but at least you will know if the animation is ok.

Ah, now I see the difference.

Hm, there is only my static object, no animation which I have made in Gmax.

Here are two messages, which comes while exporting from Gmax, I thought that there is a problem with the names of the objects, but perhaps there is another bigger mistake:

:D

There are some errors in your GMax-file. First use the tick18_* names. Then reset the scale of the animated parts - you can do this in the "hierarchy"-tab.

Hi

The first error is harmless, its telling you a part starts with a number and needs to start with a letter, this happens to me lots of times.

The second Scale error may need to be fixed,

1. Select your part in Gmax, in this case 'tick18_staiirs_3'

2. Click the 'Hierarchy tab'

3. Click the Scale button in the reset section

this should remove the scale error

In my experiance this sometimes doesnt work, if this is the case

Click 'Affect Pivot Only' button before using the reset Scale button

Hope that makes sence!!

I dont know if that will fix your problem with cat though.

Hi!

After cancelling all messages, it makes sense :) .

It works fine! I see the animation loop in the FS! Great!
Now I will try to use CAT and the frequencies.

Thanks for the nice help on this sunday :)

Now I have also tried it with CAT, and all works fine now.

Only one thing was freaky, when I am in the 2s panel, ther is all fine:

- set NAV2 to 112.00 -> animation starts
- set another freq to active -> animation reverse

But after the scenery starts, and the object is at the final position, when I go to the spot view, the animation starts again to the position. then I go to the 2d, then its on final pos. When I go again to the spot view, the animation starts again.

But first of all thank you for your help on this day!

Hi

Have you used the dist to refpoint, I believe this is a known problem, the dist to ref point is different if you are in spot view than if you are in Cockpit view, if you remove the Dist to ref and only use the frequency, the problem will go away. or it should!!!

Hi,

Good to see the other forum users could solve your CAT problem :).

When you go to spot plane view the distance probably becomes bigger than the 500 meters you entered. In that case the animation is no longer valid and it will return to the initial position again. So that all makes sense. You can better use the bounding box to check your position.
