• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Problems creating taxiways that route correctly

I have been trying to create an airport (EGHC) that is missing a lot of detail, and I have got runways etc figured out, but I can't seem to get the taxiways working correctly.

I have one working so that it connects a parking ramp to a 'hold short' at the end of one of the runways, and then a final 'runway' segment onto the runway and it all *seems* to work fine, in that you get routed along 'taxiway B hold short of runway 25' etc, and you get the blue arrows, however the problem comes at the runway end.

When you get onto the runway, get clearance etc the blue arrows don't disappear AND if I start to take off, I get pop-ups warning me I am going too fast to taxi.

Am I missing something in the way to have to terminate the taxiway/runway segment?

Please forgive the forthcoming jovial comment, as apparently you are caught up in working to grasp the new MSFS-2020 methods ...like the rest of us are.

And, since have not yet begun to do airports for MSFS-2020, I'll defer attempting to offer specific help on your question above, to others already farther along with airports.

But, to make it easier for a would-be helper to reply to your inquiry above, I'll suggest that you first 'terminate' sections of long paragraphs into shorter sentences. :)

Good luck with the learning process.

Ah, fair point... I have tried to space it out a bit now...

Part of me wonders if I am missing a step in the way to create the taxiways that would apply to earlier versions (FSX) as well.
Or maybe there are just some bugs in the taxi routing of the sim and I am not doing anything wrong.

One of the especially helpful things about Jon's coding of ADE is that it has a "Fault Finder" feature that can help point out issues that may affect airport functionality in FS. ;)

Indeed, I will be eagerly awaiting the version that supports FS 2020, in the mean time I am just going to build what seems right and ignore the warnings I get when I take off :)

Bit of an update, I found you can turn on some 'debug' views when in dev mode that show the AI pathing, if you also turn on the AI to control the plane you can see where it thinks it needs to go to follow the taxi instructions...
What I noticed was it follows the taxi path but then comes back to almost half way down the runway before starting the take off roll...

The more I look into this the more it just looks like the sim/AI not working correctly.

I enabled some extra 'debug' overlays (Options > Airports > Draw Debug, then Additional Taxi Info and Taxi Width in the same menu - they are greyed out until you select Draw debug) and compared my taxiways with a 'built in' one that I thought worked, but still have the same issue.

I then went back and flew that airport (EGHE) and saw the same bad 'taxi helper' guidance and still got the 20 knot warning on takeoff.

I decided to try one of the 'stared' airports (Madeira LMPA) but again got the same '20 knot' warning on take off roll.

It seems like the taxi guidance just doesn't recognise you getting to the start of the runway ( in addition if you get the AI to pilot it just starts the takeoff roll half way down the runway.

I suspect the issue is related to the taxiway joining the runway part way along (so you have to go the wrong way down the runway to get to the threshold).

So for now I am just ignoring the 'helper' and going back to trying to make things at least *look* right (oh and that 'Draw Debug' things is really helpful so it wasn't a complete waste of time)
(attaching some screenshots I took of EGHE to show the Debug Draw)
