• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v4 Project Denmark

It's not about ruining anyones experience or expectations, it's about copyright and licensing of resources you use...
Somehow many in the FS community nowadays seem to give a f*** on licenses and copyright, have seen this with liveries and sceneries all along.

Nothing against you Matthias ;)

There are several e.g. "texture artists" promoting and selling liveries or the right to request these on the web, which is due to most software EULA not allowed, but they don't care...
Ortho imagery, same as base textures of a product are owned by the companies who created them, which they invested money to create. If you'd like to use it you need to get a license to be allowed to use them, this is mostly achieved when buying or/and installing the product. As for software you normally only get the right to use it, you don't own it!

Would be the same like downloading a payware simulator or product for free at some suspicious websites, but hey, someone put it up her for free so it must be fine... no it isn't! It's a breach of licensing and copyright.
I tried to do sceneries myself, but cancelled most of these projects before even announcing them as prices for ortho skyrocketed to the 100.000€, which is for freeware impossible to do.

All other things I did got licensed.
Basler BT-67: licensed by the AWI and Basler Turbo Converions - product must be published free of charge (only for FSX).
PMDG liveries: licensed by PMDG, got an EULA addendum I need to include to all liveries containing parts outside the official paintkit. Even if I changed a lot, my rights to own the textures are transfered to PMDG.
Most fonts, photos,... I use: Each livery I offer free of charge is an investment of around 20€ - 400€ on my side, depending on licenses for photos, software, fonts and logos I bought to use.

As I said at the beginning, it's nothing about ruining the users expectations or experiences, it's about honoring and respecting someones work you build your's upon on.

Then the providers should please make this clear!
With all providers I asked, it was neither forbidden to use their images for non-commercial purposes, nor was it allowed.

So it should be the best if VidanDesign hires Matthias for completing his phototextures for Denmark. VidanDesign only offers JutlandNorth and Zealand so Matthias could complete Vidans product line with the licensed phototextures Vidan has aquired (hopefully) in the past!

Man this is a huge bummer. I was looking forward to Matthias' Denmark scenery - as all of his photosceneries, actually. I suppose this is also the end of project Africa?

Though I will say this. For my KCHA project I managed to find a provider who, after months of waiting, managed to get me a somewhat inexpensive license. Meaning, the area I got just covered the airport, and nothing else. Fortunately, USGS does allow the use of its imagery, and usually this is quite good quality, save for some discolorations and a relatively low resolution. But, you need to be lucky, because USGS's material doesn't even cover all of the US. When it comes to the rest of the world, things become truly impossible. I've been considering whether I could use existing imagery as a base to paint my own, in which case I reckon it shouldn't be a problem...

I see it as helping Matthias to keep out of problems and not risking getting slapped with a law suit from the makers of the orthophotos

Even though it has never happened before, despite the hundreds of freeware photoreal releases? Matthias would be VERY unlucky to be slapped with a lawsuit. Frankly I don't see why anyone apart from the imagery provider themselves should even comment on such a matter.
