• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v4 Prop issue

I believe this is the right thread for this question, so here it goes. I am trying something new for me and adding a prop texture from the side to make it viewable when looking from the left or right wing. I am very happy with the side results but I dont like that I am able to see the texture from a quarter view. Is there a way to only have it show from the side view only or just keep making it more transparent and lose some of the side view?

The fresnel_ramp texture is your friend here: it can gradually make an object transparent depending on angle of view, and that's exactly what you need. See the SDK help on materials and textures.

You can see a full recipe for it in our Digital Dakota Works C-47. MCX one of the prop assemblies and check out the materials associated with it. Alternatively, I'll be happy to give you the gmax or Max mesh and materials, just say the word.

(Hang on ... that's not a Provider, is it?)

Thank you for the tip. I would definitely like to have the mesh for 3ds just to check it out and look over if you dont mind.

Nope the Provider is on hold for a bit as I'm gathering more reference material. This is just another fun project.

OK, here goes. This is my current 3ds Beverley prop0 assembly. The 'still' and the 'slow' assemblies are of no relevance here. For the 'fast' assembly I not only have the fast propdisk but also the sideview mesh (both sides, therefore two, psl and psr). I add different fresnel textures to the fast propdisk (fresnel1) and the side meshes (fresnel2), to get what we want -- see the propdisk from roughly the front and back, and the sideview meshes from the side.

with that technique, it would not work.
psl &psr model should twisted/bend like prop model in still/slow position. event though this technique still not perfect.
you could see my Osprey blade

Begging your pardon, with that technique it has absolutely been working for several years and at least six or seven aircraft models.

Since it's only viewed from the side, the blades only need to be the shape of the blades *from the side view*, not the real shape.

I also animate the array of simple blades to the lever_prop_pitchx variables, otherwise the techniques we use at Milviz are identical.
