• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Quartz test symbol

I was wondering if there is a string to product the a quartz test symbol. The symbol is what most displays on a transponder test mode shows. It shows every possible number or symbol the display can show. For example like an 8 and 1 and + and / and \. All these together would give you the symbol that looks like an eight with a star inside. How can i produce this for a string?

Have you tried experimenting with text drawn on top of one another ... for example, here's a quartz "X" drawn on top of a quartz "0"

XML:
<Element Name="ZERO"><Position X="490" Y="100"/><FormattedText X="20" Y="40" Font="quartz" FontSize="40" LineSpacing="40" Color="red" Bright="Yes"><String>0</String></FormattedText></Element>
<Element Name="X"><Position X="490" Y="100"/><FormattedText X="20" Y="40" Font="quartz" FontSize="40" LineSpacing="40" Color="red" Bright="Yes"><String>X</String></FormattedText></Element>

Will something like that work?

That is my current solution. But was wondering if there was something better. Right now i use 8's with x's using the LCD_MONO font.

At the risk of stating the obvious, you need to find a font that will display the test symbol. Alternatively, download Font Forge and create your own, single-symbol font that you call when displaying the test symbol. If you go for Font Forge you can cheat by modifying an existing public-domain font. Been there, done that when I needed a non-available font for an INS system. Also BTDT when I needed a 1930s numerical font for gauge faces.

Font Forge - guaranteed to scare the hell out of you if you don't read the docs. https://fontforge.org/en-US/

It's been some time since I've used FF, but if you can't find an existing font to modify, you can import an image, of "fairly decent" quality and make your outline from it.

I agree completely with:
