FSX recompiling an xml

Why won't my bglcomp recompile this xml?

I have a bgl- newbglanylize would or couldn't touch it. It would shut down, I would get the Windows warning that ends in send/don't send.

Used bgl2xml which did work. I mae a copy of the xml and changed it to txt so I could read it a bit easier.

I made changes, omitted four items I did not want and recompiled. bglcomp would not recompile. I made sure to keep my paws off of the top which is the "header" for lack of a better word. Tried to stay with the format I saw in the rest of the file.

Nada! So- I changed it back to xml.... still no luck. Soooooo, I took the original xml (decompiled from the bgl) which I did not touch since decompiling and tried to recompile IT. Nada even THAT would not recompile! Why? Bob

Whys is the sky blue ;) It would help us if you attach the xml to a post. Or email it to me - jon AT scruffyduck.co.uk and I will look at it.

Hi,

Try to compile from the command prompt. In that case you see the error messages from BGLComp. These will lead you to the lines of the file that contain the errors.

Decompilers are never perfect. So in many cases there are part of the file they can't decompile correctly and therefore the resulting code is not always valid.

Jon_ I sent the offending bgl and xmls through the e-mail you gave. Arno- Will give that a try as well. Thanx to you both. Bob

Hi Bob

I got the email. Apologies that I have not had time to look at it. I will do so today

Arno- Oops! Copmmand Prompt? Are we talking about the DOS command Prompt? If so I haven't used DOS commands in years! :) Other than that all I have are a few bglcomp icons which end in exe. I usuallly slide the xml or txt over it and drop it and it's done. But this way you are saying I won't get the error message.

Yes, it's the DOS command prompt I mean :). The BGLComp compiler is not really a Windows application, so when you drag and drop your XML file on it, the warnings and errors are only visible very shortly in the command window that appears. If you compile from DOS, you will be able to see them better.
