• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA rough rwy

Friend of mine syas he sees terrible bounce in his landing gear- (2 or 3 ft up and down.). Other airports not.

At this airport we are working on we have a flatten but still this occurs. I tried it with a 747 and saw some up and down movement in the front gear only. aircraft itself was stable.

Landing at another stock airport I saw the same... with my 747. Ran off into the grass at the stocki airport.... same up and down bounce at front gear... no change from rwy.

i.e. My airport and stock airport responds the same. My friend's aircraft is a very large payware item. i don't know what it is. He checked the contact points and they are ok. He goes to another airport and has no problem... therefore the trouble is with my airport I guess. How can this be fixed?

Or perhaps he sees the up and down motion and thinks it is terrible bounce.... yet he does not see this at another airport.

He sees this from spot view- of course. Bob

Some runway textures by default will cause the gear to bounce since they are considered rough surfaces in FS.

When in doubt use concrete or asphalt as a test texture.

wonderful. but I already use asphalt. This is a French airport we're modifying. Therefore it was already done... just adding things here and there. Have not touched the rwy or taxiways at all. weird, huh!!! Bob

Add such a feature to ADE? would be nice.... and perhaps to other AFCAD - style programs.

I went to the stock airport (btw... LFSC) and foiund the same problem. It is something inherent in FSX. Changing ALT did not help.

my solution that worked great: Using FSDS (I am sure Gmax can do the same) I made a poly same dimentions as rwy. I then put a texture on it so I could see it as I was placing it, and also put a hrad surface on it.

Placed this with IS2, raised it from just under ground until the plane bouncing went away. I left the object right there and then removed the texture from my texture folder of the scenery.

worked great. Bob

The stock airport shows the runway texture is MACADAM

MACADAM is a rough runway surface texture in FS so if you do not want the rough ride and bounce of the planes wheels, a very simple fix is change the default MACADAM runway surface to ASPHALT.

The lastest version of ADE adds Custom Ground Polys and Lines.

Yes, I thought of changing the Macadam to asphalt, but when I saw what the stock airport was doing I did the other work instead. i will double check on this, however.

I know the new ADE can now do ground polies which is great! is the new ADE compatible with the older versions? i.e. with the new version can I open older version, saved airports I have with the new version? Bob

jvile- Just changed the texture ini stock to asphalt. this did work. The flatten is still needed but no more bounce. I never saw Macadma effect an AC's wheels THAT much - some but not that much. Thanx for the tip. However, my trick works well if one has that bounce and wants to keep the Macadam surface.
Yes- the new poly in ADE will fit the curve of the Earth better, but I saw no visual change anywhere in this case, and the plane takes off before the end of the rwy anyway. it works and works well and no dust and dirt flying off the wheels.
Anyway- my stewardesses aren't staggering around the plane anymore.... thanx. :) bob

The new beta version of ADE will read project files created by earlier versions. However once saved in 1.60 the file cannot be read by older versions.

do hope that can be resolved one day.

What?

If you refer to backward compatibility of file formats in ADE then that is unlikely - it would mean re-opening the code of old versions to get them to ignore invalid structures in the file.
