• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Select Polyline Building GUID

Hello everybody!

I have a little, dumb question...
How do you select a GUID in the Autogen Annotator for Polyline Buildings?
I tried nearly all categories of the extrusions.xml, but whenever I am clicking on "Set GUID" "<-- GUID NULL -->" appears and I can't place any Polyline Buildings...
Can someone tell me the trick to make this work?

Thank you all in advance!

Hi,

I have no problem here, after loading the extrusion.xml file I select a GUID from the Polyline Builidng Groupings window and then press the Set Guid button next to the polyline building.

Hi Matthias, hope you're well!

Just wondering - I'm having the same problem that you had but with the Library Objects list - I cannot select an existing autogen building and change it to a custom autogen building via the custom building's GUID, as it doesn't appear for me to "Set GUID" and simply remains "Default Autogen 1 roof". I assumed that loading the default.xml file would allow this, but the Autogen Configuration Editor has never been able to open the default.XML and I was certain that it wasn't need as the control panel can already see my custom buildings. I can place them one object at a time, so the annotator recognises them, but I'd like to alter large numbers in a scenery project and am unable to do so. I have noticed also that I cannot change existing buildings to other default buildings either, so it's not my custom models that are the issue.

Does anyone have any ideas about this? The process works fine for trees when opening the AutogenDesciptions.XML file, so why not the Library? Probably me missing something obvious again :) Example.jpg

Okay, after some research I think that if my understanding is correct it is not possible to select custom autogen buildings in this way via their GUIDS, they can only be placed as single objects ( and then copied and pasted into larger groupings ). Only autogen that conforms to the roof descriptions .xml method can be group selected and altered via the GUIDs. Which means that autogen models would have to be built to match that format.

Yes, for autogen buildings you can only vary the texture and the roof used. The last is selected using the guid.

That's very interesting, and also a bit restrictive. The models use a very tightly defined-by-pixels set of texture sheets based on region - could these sheets be scaled up to 2048 x 2048 for instance and still work, do you know? It might allow me some leeway on my work if they can be upgraded.

Hi,

The autogen buildings are not models, they are generated on the fly from the footprint you draw.

The texture layout is fixed, but you can scale up the texture size without problems.
