• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v4 Self-defined camera in scenery?

I've got a question.

Currently I'm planning a scenery in which a camera is attached to a building. In reality, this camera takes pictures and sends the pictures taken to the website of the airfield club:

Now I have modeled these cameras and would like - if possible - to attach a custom camera definition to this modeled 3-D camera. Is this something possible? So on airplanes and avatars you can even define cameras and works very well. That would of course be great if I could install a camera with a filter in my scenery. Similar to the tower camera or the cameras on the runways.

Hi Christopher:

Are you wanting to use this during Multi-player flights ? :scratchch

There is a default "Control Tower" mode available in FSX (and I assume P3D as well) that uses a SimObject which can have custom camera views added to its Sim.Cfg file.

Such a session can be saved as a "Saved Flight" *.FLT file and loaded afterwards as a user aircraft 'free flight' session without explicitly going into Control Tower mode via the menus system.

Also, the default Control Tower SimObject can be copied and its GUID changed, then its 3D model changed for use as a different SimObject.

Otherwise a custom Gauge or SimConnect / SimDirector routine might be possible (not sure, as I'm not a programmer).

Hope these ideas may help. :)

Thank you Gary for your idea.

It's not about MultiPlayer flights. It's about a very ordinary building that is deposited in a lib and is an ordinary bgl file. That's why it's not what I meant, unfortunately. I am already aware that in the context of a scenario (formerly mission) you can set up cameras or attach them to other objects. What I meant is a camera without a scenario. There was the assumption that you can perhaps attach a camera as an attachpoint to an object. Similar to what you do with fx-effects.

Unfortunately, like you, I'm not a programmer and I do not know anything about Simconnect&Co at all. Can also create no Gauges or programming. Nevertheless, many thanks for your tip :)

Hi again:

You may find this web site rather interesting:

I have not looked at this info in quite a long time, and I don't recall actually having yet tested creation of a "Fixed" camera at an assigned FS Geographic location, but perhaps this might present some additional options.

Note that the Lat / Lon / Alt can be set for "Fixed" cameras. ;)

I got curious about this one. Does anybody know if that's possible in SimConnect?
I've seen approaches with an additional AFCAD containing nothing but a tower viewpoint and an "ignore" description. But of course this "camera" isn't fixed.

In the meantime I have said goodbye to the idea. Was probably just a brainwrap of mine. The AFCAD tower variant I had also already envisaged. Unfortunately, this camera follows the plane - which it should not.
A programmer who can deal with Simconnect, could perhaps do something there, so that the "Camera Code" is directly in the BGL file of the object (perhaps as a tweak?) But if this effort is worthwhile for a small feature, I know not right.

The idea with an attached camera itself is certainly not bad.

A programmer could possibly inject cameras defined in an xml file located in the scenery folder. Too sad I don't have a clue.

I have again made the SDK and read through the relevant sections. But there is probably no way to build a camera definition in the BGL file. Also about the add-on.xml is not. You can include all kinds of things, but no camera definition. At first I say goodbye to this rather strange idea. Thanks anyway.

I just had a quick look at the simconntect documentation. I didn't find a camera placed somewhere in the world but cameras can very well be manipulated.
Provided a simconnect DLL has it's own logic of reading the necessary information from xml this seems very well possible.
