• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Some ADE Questions

1. Is there a way using ADE to set the parking spots so they will fill preferentially? I remember in ACAD you could open the parking spots list and rearrange the order by dragging the spots around. Then, in FS9, the parking spots would fill up in the order they were in the list. Is this possible with ADE?

2. Is there any way to prevent or at least alleviate aircraft getting stuck at hold short nodes while trying to cross an active runway due to the runway being in use by other aircraft landing or taking off? I used a method with AFCAD in FS9 introduced by then PAI AFCAD Staff Member Steve Parkinson using a diamond configuration of links across the runway between the hold short nodes. Using his method, aircraft could cross the active runway when it was in use by another aircraft. Id addition, landing aircraft could still use the the turnouts from the runway to the crossing taxiway to exit after landing. The method worked and looked great in FS9. I tried the same method using ADE with not much luck. The aircraft movement is the same, but the appearance of the crossing is horrible. Even turning off all the lines and lights still results in a bizarre cloverleaf of lines at the crossing. Evidently either FSX or ADE has changed the way lines are generated and the results are NOT good.

3. Just what does closing a taxiway link do? I used it to try to prevent aircraft from using a section of taxiway and it didn't work. What is the option used for?

4. Is there a reason my aircraft are using both ends of a runway for landing and taking off simultaneously? I just edited a default airport and added a crosswind runway using ADE ver 1.26 and now I have aircraft landing and taking off from both ends of the runways at the same time. It's great for traffic flow, but not quite "as real as it gets"

Thanks for any help! :)

In FSX this is somewhat debatable. I have reordered parking like we did in FS9 but it does not always fill spots based on sort order. There appears to be a internal randomizing that is easy to see with GA Parking spots. You can reorder all the GA spots and reload FSX over and over and planes randomly change parking spots regardless of the parking list. Maybe Reggie will have more info on this.

I use both the Diamond and stack overlay methods with ADE. It works fine but the draw in FSX is a little different then what FS9 had. You can look at some of my Airports such as KMIA, KMSP or EHAM to see how I used a blocking node which helps in the draw pattern.

It places a "X" on the taxiway. If you want to close the taxiway you must open a link somewhere. This is the same as the default FSX.

This is normally due to a wind change just after FSX loads. Some airports in FSX flip runway end usage faster then what FS9 did. Inbound arrivals when FSX starts are assigned a runway end. If wind changes, the departures go to the opposite end of the runway while arrivals cannot reverse their landing direction. I think that is what you mean and if not explain further.

How did you reorder the parking with ADE? The dragging doesn't work like it did in AFDCAD and I don't see any option to change the order of the parking spaces.

I have your version of KMIA in my FSX. I'll look it over and see what you did.

I realize that sometimes the wind changes after FSX loads, but I was having both ends of the runway in use after about 20 minutes of watching traffic. I was checking out how traffic was routed in my ADE rendition of KPIT for errors. I picked a particularly busy time of day (early morning) so there would be a lot of traffic. Initially there was a wind shift and I had traffic going both directions. After a while it settled out but after about 15 minutes, traffic started using both ends of all four runways again. I had planes taking off and landing from both ends. I've never seen this before.

There is no way at present

Jim, after checking out your KMIA, I reworked my KPIT and after a bit of tweaking, I finally got the diamond to work and look good too. Thanks for the help.

Jvile, I din't think there was a way to do it with ADE. I can get pretty good results by manipulating the gate sizes to get aircraft to park where and when I want them to. Thanks for the reply.

Raynuss

I did not use ADE to resort the parking list order. I use AFCAD to work in FSX then decompiled the bgl. I copy the following 4 sections into ADE and add back the "T" offsets, Fuel Trucks, etc.

<TaxiwayPoint
<TaxiwayParking
<TaxiName
<TaxiwayPath

I do this for testing Plane parking purposes only

Concerning KPIT

If you pick a very busy time it may take the airport /runways to flip the arrivals a long time. Departures normally flip to the opposite end of the runway within 15 minutes.

By chance did you have real weather working?

Hi Raynuss
You are lucky if you are getting this,
Myself and others have been trying to get this operation to work at certain airports for many years without an overlay
and as Jim mentions, also,if you load FSX then enter a wind change once traffic has started to depart both ends will operate (I've also seen this) but not for long
Interesting stuff!!!

Yes, I did have real weather working. I set KPIT as my startup flight and loaded real weather before starting the flight and I didn't experience any strange behavior. I think it was as you said...the weather changed after loading the flight and caused the double takeoff-landing.

I just spent about 2 hours watching KPIT with AISmooth running in the background and with the ADE layout I just did, I experienced no stuck or disappearing aircraft for the entire session. Sweet!:)

There is a behavior caused by weather which most people are not aware of. When you load a flight as you mentioned, you start with the cached weather from the saved flight.

This behavior did also occur in FS2004, but we did not notice it because of the way runway changes happened.

I strongly recommend you start your flight, load real world weather after the flight has started, then go to the map view and change your aircraft heading by one degree.

This forces a complete reload of the AI and is the only way I've found to force the AI to load and the runway settings to be based on the last real world weather.
