• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Some LibraryObjects don't show up

Hello,
Hopefully I did find the right place to post my Problem :santahat:
Using the BGLComp Tool of the FS2004 SDK, I tried to place some Objects in the scenery. I used LibraryObjects, listed in the Excel Sheet that came along with the BGLComp Tool. Some of these objects are displayed and others are not.
Please can anybody explain why?
Where - in which file or files - are these LibraryObjects stored?
Many thanks in advance for any hint,
Dietzi

Dietzi,

Some of the objects in the stock libraries are locked to specific regions and therefore can not be placed just anywhere.

Hello Firestriker,

thank you for your reply! I have that anticipated/feared.
As you might assume, I am a bloody newby in the area of
scenery matters. Can you please help me with some tips
where to get ready to use objects to adorn an airport a
little bit ? Hangars, controltower, office buildings etc.
Anyway many thanks in advance,

Dietzi

Servus Dietzi! :D ;)

You may find RWY12 or objectplacerXML very useful. Both give you the possibility to place objects and buildings pretty easy.
If you want to use default objects that are assigned to another region (for example a hangar from LA-International on your own airport in europe), you'll have to decompile the default bgl and use the mdl within. I had some pretty nice results with that - but it's some days work... :o

So better start with RWY12 or OBXML. :)

EZ-Scenery from Abacus is also an easy entry into enhancing airports. It is payware however, but you can place your objects from 'within' FS which may be an advantage if you are new to scenery design :)

Library Objects that don't show up

I too have been puzzled as to just which of the objects listed in the file LibraryObjects.xls will display in FS2004. It seems to be a matter of trial and error. :scratchch

To try and get to grips with this I have created a BGL containing all these objects set out in a grid labelled with taxiway signs. The BGL is attached in a zip file. It gives an idea how the objects will look in FS2004.

So far it seems that nearly all the objects that begin with "gen_" or "ag_" can be expected to appear, but objects that are just 5 characters long or those starting with three capital letters (eg. "MIA_") are locked to a location and will not appear anywhere else.
