FSX Sub folder for addon aircraft in FSX Steam

I created a sub folder in the sim objects folder in FSX Steam to place my addon aircraft. I made an enrty to the fsx CFG file to recognize the new sub folder placing it just under the entry for Simobjects\Misc and numbered it #6. The ADDON PLANES is the same name as the sub folder I put in the sim objects folder. When I open FSX to go for a flight My addon planes are not in the display. Below is a picture of my structure in the fsx.CFG. Thank you for any help.
Dan Culver

Foot Note: I have created a sub folder in FSX (not a Steam version) which I have on anoter hardrive in exactly the same way and it worked, the addon planes show up.

[Main]
User Objects=Airplane, Helicopter
SimObjectPaths.0=SimObjects\Airplanes
SimObjectPaths.1=SimObjects\Rotorcraft
SimObjectPaths.2=SimObjects\GroundVehicles
SimObjectPaths.3=SimObjects\Boats
SimObjectPaths.4=SimObjects\Animals
SimObjectPaths.5=SimObjects\Misc
SimObjectPaths.6=SimObjects\ADDON PLANES
ProcSpeed=9089
PerfBucket=7

Check the spelling of your folder. Even the addition of an extra space in the name will cause it to fail.

I have checked and rechecked and even given the folder a different name but nothing seems to help. I'm usually pretty good at sorting out issues but this one has got me stumped.

Try changing the folder name to \AddonPlanes (without the space) between addon and planes.

I did try changing the folder name without the space and got the same results. This is quite a mystery. Not sure what to try next.

Did you change the correct fsx.cfg? You need to change the file located in Users/your user name/App Data/Roaming/Microsoft/FSX.

Try putting the FULL PATH to the folder like I have in my fsx.cfg as below:

Code:
[Main}
...
...
SimObjectPaths.6=C:\Program Files (x86)\12bPilot\SODE\data\SimObjects
SimObjectPaths.7=C:\ProgramData\12bPilot\SODE\SimObjects

I gave your last suggestion a try but to no avail. I created the full path in the fsx,cfg but it did't work. It must be a problem in my editing some where.

Is your FSX installed into any Program Files folder? If so, I suspect an OS permissions issue. You may have to locate the new folder outside of any such parent folder.

This is what I did. I moved the new folder to MY Documents folder and designated this path:

C:\Daniel Culver\My Documents\ADDON Planes. Go.t the same result, no addon planes show

This is what I did. I moved the new folder to MY Documents folder and designated this path:

C:\Daniel Culver\My Documents\ADDON Planes. Go.t the same result, no addon planes show
My Documents could be protected by the RansomWare protection in Windows 10. So permission to write is not allowed explicitly.
This is why so many of the lder installations fail in windows 10.

Also you mention in the first post :
Foot Note: I have created a sub folder in FSX (not a Steam version) which I have on anoter hardrive in exactly the same way and it worked, the addon planes show up.

Now on my computer I have :
Code:
C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FS9
C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX
C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX-SE
Is it possible that you have both FSX and FSX-SE on the same computer?
If so maybe you are editing the wrong fsx.cfg? Try adding the same entry in both if you have both folders.

Another thing is that somehow your FSX.cfg is corrupted with unprintable chrs. Try this:
Make a copy of the original file - the one that does not work.
Copy the one from the FSX that works (see your quote above)
If that works then corruption is the issue. So open the backed up fsx.cfg and recreate another one by typing out in a new cfg file. Do not copy/paste or corruption may ensue.

Try locating the new folder in C:\Flight Simulator Files or something similar.

I have FSX on the other hardrive on this laptop. I am going to try to make a path from there over to steam for the ADDON PLANES I have there that work. I will see what happens when I do that. Also is it possible this problem could have something to do with sim connect? I do not know if that function is enabled on my Steam FSX.

I do have FSX on the same computer but on separate drives. I am sure I am editing the Steam FSX version fsx.cfg file. I did make a path from the FSX on the other hardrive but it didn't work. I will take another look at the fsc.cfg and try your suggestion about typing a copy of it. Do I need to type the new complete cfg file?

I think I may have a real problem. I think maybe the fsx.cfg in both my Steam versionon C; and the FSX on D: may be corrupted.

This is what the FSX on C: hardrive says at the very top of the page (and the backup says the same thing). Funny thing is this is the the FSX that shows my ADDON PLANES folder.

[DEBUG]
ReportLoadErrors=1

I am getting really mixed up here. When I opened the folder that is on D: that holds the Steam FSX, I find two cfg files. One titled: fsx.CFG which does not show the entry for the ADDON PLANES folder and the the entry for the second cfg titled fsx.CFG.CFG which does show the entry for the ADDON PLANES folder. The addon planes are still not showing.

The file MUST be fsx.cfg NOT fsx.cfg.cfg!!!
So copy the entry from fsx.cfg.cfg -> SimObjectPaths.7=SimObjects\ADDON PLANES
and paste it in the correct place under [Main] in the fsx.cfg.
Then DELETE that fsx.cfg.cfg. It is simply causing confusion.

Sometimes addons make changes here and put their own entries in the fsx.cfg. The original is then backed up, sometimes like you have - fsx.cfg.cfg etc.

Now you should have the following:
C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FS9 - (only if you installed FS9)
C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX
C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX-SE

and in each folder you should have one FSX.CFG only.
Open each fsx.cfg and make sure it has the entry for the addon planes

SimObjectPaths.7=SimObjects\ADDON PLANES

and it should all work. If you see any other fsx.bak or fsx.cfg.bak or any other such files simply ignore them.

I copied and pasted (SimObjectPaths.7=SimObjects\ADDON PLANES ) into fsx,cfg file and deleted the fsx.cfg.cfg file but still no addon planes. I double checked the pasthways and all are correct.
C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX
C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX-SE
