• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Attached is a zip containing a chm help file for ADE 2020) I am not sure if this will work on all computers so I would appreciate you unzipping the chm and testing that you can run it.

Hi Jon,
Works fine for me on W10 21H1 just plonked onto my MSFS drive. Looks good. My only comment is that not all screen clips move (re-size) when you re-size the Help window, so some go "off the page" and are part hidden.
Not a big deal - I just made the window bigger :)
This is a great move - I assume you'll end up attaching it to F1 or something within ADE itself?

Works here W10x64 Pro........Installation Tab empty and Scenery Objects are empty......Scenery Objects, that will be a hot topic... :)
Will the parking lists display (so you can edit etc) be available sometime soon....Mine is always a blank page that hides and I have to "x" it out?

Don’t open CHM files you don’t recognize.

Most Windows users aren’t even aware of hh.exe and likely chm files when they press F1 and such. But the answer is obvious…. The ADE chm file is from a trusted source and should be considered safe if protected at Jon’s end.
These attacks stem from the source being compromised (excluding emailed stuff and people opening them) at their source rather than actually on the machine.
However, having said all that, the only way to exclude totally any threat is for Jon to move to a totally “on-line” version of the help file which to me would be the most practical method and most simplest for him.

I am not sure it is working for you. Prerequisites should not be empty

It's down to user common sense. The chm file you are seeing is generated by me using a well recognized and established authoring tool - https://www.helpndoc.com/

Having said that I personally don't like chm files and would be more than happy to not generate or use them. I am also aware that some users don't like on-line documentation. The alternative is to provide a pdf file but I would probably be breaking the end user agreement for HelpNDoc if I did that. At the moment I am testing using the not for commercial use option and I don't have 300+ euros to purchase a full license.
 
AFAIK, any file type from outside one's computer may be used as an exploit, and IMHO, it is 'practical' to trust this CHM file source.

I appreciate Jon's good intentions in making the ADE CHM help file available. :)


And a Search feature in the online version with direct linking now restored, makes it especially useful for self-study, and posting help for newbies.

I have added this to the Please Read First installation notes which will be the only part of the help system to be separate and to be read before installing. The same information is in the Getting Help Topic of the ADE 2020 Help Site The embedded link take the user to the page identified by GaryGB

No worries. I will add some text in these empty topics over time so they don't just sit there dumb and empty
