• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Texture Blending or Dithering

Working!!!

Hi, Holger, Scott, Timmo and all

I got the thing working!!! Moved the transition of hard winter to spring a little further south, so my textures don't need any dithering any more!!! And the dithering happens exactly as it should, further south, and FS does the dithering with its own texture just beautifully.

But I only got it working with the help trom all you fellows, and I want to thank you a lot for it. You guys know stuff that makes me wonder where you got the information (in a good way). As a friend of mine used to say, "The truth is out there... but it is not in the documentation".

I love having gone through the exercise. I leaned more about seasons, graphics, and even PhotoShop than I imagined. Lost half a night thinking about it, but I am happy today.

But I am sure I'll be back with more questions as soon as I do my next project...

Please comment.

Thanks, guys, sincerely!!!

Glad you are making progress. Everything I know I got from Christian's original work, and help from Holger along the way. Fortunately I had experience with landclass and mesh in resample, so I had a basic idea of what needed to be done. It took me a while to develop a workflow to make it reasonably efficient.

Thanks to this thread I have dug into the latest version of my GIMP 2.4 image software, and learned more about gif format and indexed color in general. I also found there is now a raw output in GIMP which would make life easier.

FSX resample is still much easier to work with if you also have some GIS software to prepare the source data.

Problem solved

Hi, Scott and all

Well, I got the seasons to work just the way I wanted, and I'll close the thread.

I am writing it down, because I don't think I'll remember if I stop using it for the summer (yes, summer will come).

The effort showed me not only how little I knew about seasons - and scenery in general - but also about graphics and especially Photoshop that I have had for years. I may tackle mesh one of these days.

Thank you all much for your help and your patience.

Fern
