• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX texture inversion

Hi,

I remember having seen a similar problem before and now I seem to experience it again after the latest dev. release: after loading a previously made mdl, MCX shows all textures inverted or not positioned correctly any longer.
I removed all texture paths and put in the one pointing to the texture of the FSX bgl (knowing textures still show correctly in FSX), but to no avail.
The two screenshots explain perhaps better what I am trying to convey.
Any ideas?

All DDS textures must be flipped vertically.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Tom,

But it does not!
DDS textures (as you can see from the FSX screenshot) have been flipped vertically. Only, why would MCX want me to flip them one more time in order to show them correctly?

MCX inverts the polys that're marked "is virtual cockpit texture," which makes 'em re-flipped vertically... I just went through this a few days ago, after having migrated a compiled xxx_interior.mdl via MCX to .3DS, then importing into Max2008.

It may well be that something similar is happening with your scenery polys.

Found the culprit!
When updating MCX, DDS textures are flipped because this option is checked in the texture settings.
Unchecking it and reloading the mdl remedies the problem.
Took a bit of puzzling to find the reason.

Hi,

The default value for FlipDDS in ModelConverterX is false. Which means it will work for FS DDS textures. If the setting was true, it must be that you once changed it.

:banghead::banghead:Hi Arno,

Back on the honk?
You may be right but truly, I do not remember changing these settings.
Anyway, problem solved. Thanks.

PS By the way, how was the FS weekend I all forgot about :banghead:?

FSWeekend was good fun again. And the presentation about SketchUp I gave also went well.
